Trump Threatens 35% Tax on Ford if Mexico Operations Expand
Mustang 360 ^ | 12/23/2015 | John Gilbert

It was the Detroit News headline "Trump goes after Ford Motor Co." not how long Hillary went overtime in the restroom that got our attention. Donald Trump made a whistle stop outside Grand Rapids, Michigan to take aim at Ford’s plans to expand production in Mexico. Trump promised if elected he would threaten manufacturers with big tariffs on imports to discourage building manufacturing plants south of the border.

Trump to Ford, "If you build that plant in Mexico, I’m going to charge you 35 percent on every car, truck part that you send into our country," he said. "Every single one." Trump went further saying he would engage in tough negotiations with car companies to build new plants in the US and Michigan. Political analysts say Trump’s proposal would at the very minimum require congressional approval and possibly violate NAFTA.

All of these kinds of trade agreements always favor the weakest link. I prefer making individual trade agreements with individual countries. I think I heard Trump say he does too.

Well, Cathy of Arrogance, FYI ALL CAPS is a VERY legitimate emphasis indicator in the writer’s use when and if he needs it. The other emphasis indicator is italics which is too easily confused here with an indicated quote. Stick around, you just MIGHT learn something.

If you’re so dense you can’t see the benefits of penalization against wrong doers, you’re a lost cause. Those who destroy and/or contribute to destruction of the American economy are wrong doers and should be abolished by any means neccessary.

No, I see lots of caps and multiple exclamation points used by Trump supporters. It’s a sign of simple-minded ecstatic hysteria.

But you go right ahead.

The top of your head is full of baloney. The UAW is powerless in Right to Work States. Unions destroyed Detroit and the American auto industry.
Competitive advantage in moving to right to work States with a decrease in taxation and regulation on the fed level will build our economy. DC picks winners and losers now and they have been making us losers for years. Trump will change the language in DC to pro American instead of pro New World Order.

How many time have Americans been told, “You can’t do that, it’s impossible, its not who we are, that’s isolationist, nationalism is racism, you can’t build a wall, you can’t deport millions who entered illegally, you can’t cut government programs, you can’t tell corporation they can’t setup in Communist China, you can’t have English only, you can’t tell people from other countries they can’t come here....

On and on and on.

Says you! Has your knighted choice for president appointed you the head of the psychological department on Free Republic? Don’t think so. I WILL go right ahead and express myself as I see fit and don’t need your permission to do so. Try your reeducation program on your own ilk.

Right you are and the list is long. Trump will put an end to the pie in the sky liberals and the can’t do lefties who have deprived America of our natural born strengths. People just have to learn to think for themselves again and stop letting others play the blame game so effectively.

I don’t give a crap what you do. But keep one thing in mind.

Shouting people down is not going to work, no matter how loud you try it, no matter how many of your pack you bring in, no matter how many insults you throw.

Internalize that and remember it.

This would do a lot to bring jobs to America.

Bring BACK jobs to America.......

Michigan is filled with unemployed skilled trades and production workers, it would be great if those jobs came back home.........

Merry Christmas Laz!

How does a president impose a tax without Congress?

Ya start smackin' heads..........."LachlanM' wants funding for "XXX", well you ain't gonna get it unless you start seeing things my way"........

Politics is a dirty business and IMHO, Trump knows how to work deals.........

And the supporters of it are becoming as rare as public pay phones.

Uh no, you can't judge by your protectionist circle-jerk here what the number of supporters of free trade are. The issue has been settled since the tariff disasters of the early 1800s, and then Smoot-Hawley put an exclamation point on it. Free trade is the best policy.

What can make America great again is the elimination of the corporate tax, and getting back to sensible regulation and environmental policies. Labor is a very small part of the price of a product. If labor were the determining factor of where jobs go, Mississippi would be a manufacturing giant.

This along with his statement a couple of days ago that the courts should enforce the law instead of trying to defund ways around it tend to support choice number two.

I hadn’t seen that. Maybe there is still a chance he will accept some sort of position or responsibility.

Men like Icahn and Trump have powerful egos and I just don't see one working for the other. Icahn would want to do thing his way and not necessarily Trump's way.
