OLYMPIA, Wash. - More than 3,000 prisoners in Washington have been mistakenly released early since 2002 because of an error by the state's Department of Corrections that resulted in wrongly calculated sentences for about 3 percent of the prison population.
At a news conference announcing the error Tuesday, Gov. Jay Inslee said he has ordered immediate steps to correct the longstanding computer glitch.
"Frankly, it is maddening," Inslee said.
Authorities say a July 2002 state Supreme Court ruling required the Corrections Department to apply good-behavior credits earned in county jail to state prison sentences. However, the programming fix ended up giving prisoners with sentencing enhancements too much so-called good time credit.

Clinton claims rising health care costs and deductibles of Obamacare are just 'glitches'
Somebody must have been using an early version of Common Core arithmetic. According to their calculations, all was Kosher!
So to speak.
Lucky them I guess
Well, good programming can only be found at the ObamaCare website.......
It would be interesting to see who signed off on the technical design spec.
In my experience, many signers don’t actually read the document.
Yeah, “mistakenly”, riiiight.
Frankly, you're maddening you fool.
Computer glitch my ass. It isn’t like the computer just opened to doors all by itself.
I HATE BUREAUCRATS!
Glitch. Sure. I get so sick of the “oh, we in government are so incompetent, silly us”, excuse. If this is true, then let’s see some heads roll. Good luck.
The Department of Corrections was first alerted to the error in December 2012, when a victim's family learned of a prisoner's imminent release. The family did its own calculations and found he was being credited with too much time.
A victim's family brought all this to light.
That’s what I was thinking. Just more nonsense to throw out there to keep conservatives (no longer can say GOP) from concentrating efforts on the DEMs.
Liberals were feeling Christmassy ?
Idiocracy, the movie, is now a documentary. In the movie the guards were too stupid to keep people in so the lead character simply walked out.
An error in programming, not a computer “”glitch”.
Maybe the Washington governor should request the Department of Corrections to collect up to 3,000 gonads from the employees and consultants responsible for the FUBAR.
Yeah, I know. The governor probably doesn’t even have a pair to make that request.
This is why we need the death penalty extended to apply to all violent felons: this way, the liberals can’t let them back into society and then pretend it was a “mistake”.
Exactly...just happens to corespond with Louis Farrahkhan (and Jeremiah Wright) calling for a 10,000 man Islamic Army ( to kill whites) and Obama responding to this request by asking for the release of 6000 blacks from prison. Looks like they have only 1000 to go!
How many will be so grateful that they will not reoffend?
At least one or two. Maybe...
