Welcome to your future, America. If New York City is at the forefront of trendsetting social science experiments -- and it often is -- you are in trouble unless you bow to political correctness and refer to transgendered people using the proper pronoun.
That's right. You can now be charged with discrimination under New York City law if you refer to a female transgender as "him" or "Mr."
From Reuters:
New York City has warned landlords, employers and businesses they could be running afoul of the law by purposely calling a transgender woman "him" or "Mr." when she prefers a female title and pronoun, or by barring her from using a women's restroom.
New guidelines detail the legal protections of transgender and gender-nonconforming New Yorkers and what constitutes discrimination under the city's Human Rights Law, the New York City Commission on Human Rights said on Monday.
Some 25,000 transgender and gender non-conforming people live in New York City, where discrimination based on gender identity and expression has been illegal since 2002.
"Today's new guidelines strengthen those laws by ensuring that every transgender and gender non-conforming person in New York receives the dignity and respect they deserve," Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement.
The guidelines said dress codes requiring men to wear ties or women to wear skirts are discriminatory.

It
“It” or “that thing” works for me.
I would have been polite, but force makes me obstinate.
The most frequently cited estimate is that 700,000 people in the United States, or about 0.2 to 0.3 percent of the population, are transgender,
If you’re a landlord in Da City you’re probably already a masochist.
Let them do it. Watch the number of unemployed and homeless freaks skyrocket.
Liberals won’t be happy until no man woman or child will say one word to anyone else. Until we are all zombies walking around staring blankly ahead and not communicating at all, someone will get offended and need a new law for something.
Please....just make them shut up for one day of peace.
RE: Congrats NY, you get what you vote for.
78 percent of New Yorkers did not even bother to vote in the last Mayoral election.
So this city law supercedes the Contitution’s first amendment?
Not voting is basically an admission that you are willing to accept what ever the winner decided to do.

I work in Manhattan most days. I guess the city passes a lot of “feel good” laws but they have no effect on me. No company memos have ever been distributed about them. Working in NYC is like working in any other city, except it’s bigger and has more places to eat good food.
Which is less then one half of one per cent (based on a population of 8.4 million.
craziness
This will not stand.
Tyranny by a minority. This whole social experiment that goes against human nation will collapse simply because they were not satisfied with the “victories” they had already won.
They do not want “equality” they want superiority, and they want to humiliate those they hate.
Once again, completely ignoring the proscriptions in the constitution, New York City strikes even further into eliminating the freedom of speech and association.
All hail the mother government who shall make all things not within the liberal agenda illegal.
If you recall, the GOP choice was an uber-RINO named Joe Lhota.
He is pro-abortion and pro-gay "marriage". He has recently called for the expulsion of Trump from the GOP because he has been mean to muslims.
The GOPe didn't offer a candidate that was worth voting for. Shades of the Romney campaign.
Does this apply to all my gay male colleagues who refer to themselves and others as “she”?
Isn't it discriminatory to have "Women's" restrooms???? New York City needs to spend $10 or $20 million to go around removing all gender designations from restrooms.
