Last night, Becca Glover Watkins, communications director for Chairman Richard Burr of the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, engaged in behavior that was unbefitting of her position. During the course of the GOP presidential debate, an unfortunate political smear was lobbed at Senator Ted Cruz by Senator Marco Rubio when Rubio falsely asserted that Senator Cruz had disclosed classified information. This lie was then disseminated by Glover Watkins, utilizing her United States Senate title and her official Twitter account.
The fact that Senator Cruz has done nothing improper is underscored by the swift announcement of Senator Burr and Senator Feinstein that Senator Cruz would not be investigated for wrongdoing.
Vets for a Strong America's stance is two fold: first, in her position as communications director for the Chairman of the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Glover Watkins has a professional duty to tell the truth and a heightened duty to follow the law with regard to classified information. Given that last night Glover Watkins was seemingly willing to either a) re-disseminate classified information for political purposes, or b) to lie about a member of the United States Senate, we are demanding her immediate removal from the position of communications director. We are further filing an Ethics Complaint regarding her conduct in this matter.
Second, VSA would hope that the Select Committee will investigate and hold hearings into the actual mishandling of classified information by Hillary Clinton. We will be aggressively petitioning Senator Burr for action regarding accountability for Clinton and any others involved in sharing classified information over her secret home brew server.
Lastly, VSA is disappointed in the behavior of Senator Marco Rubio for lying about a fellow Senator and using an issue as important as national security to achieve a political objective. More often than not, Senator Rubio looks less like a serious Member of Congress, and more like John McCain's personal Senate mini-me, parroting Gang of 8 talking points. VSA will not stand by while Senator Rubio continues to distort the strong national security record of Senator Ted Cruz.

This seems like a bit of BS. I’m no supporter of Rubio but I sure did not hear him accuse Cruz of disclosing classified information. Now, whatever the aid did is a different matter. Finally, throwing in complaint about Clinton shows this all as a bit of political propaganda. My time writing this is already wasting more time than this whole issue deserves.

I heard this lie repeated during the John Batchelor Show. He had a sub doing the show. I was mad and turned it off.
Conservatives had better get their act together and stop trying to scheme, scam, lie and cheat their way to the oval office. It is a great way to ensure Hillary gets there.

Otherwise, the remarks in the debate sounded like they were pointing toward himself that he was going to have to keep his own response in check so as not to release classified information, not alleging Cruz had released classified information in his own remarks.
Rubio did not accuse, imo. He did imply. His minions ran with it afterward. Do I believe Rubio is behind it? Absolutely. It fits everything else he has done and I heard him imply as much.
Batchelor hates Trump. I can’t listen to him when he hates on Trump.

I heard it primarily as Rubio restraining himself, but with a slight hint that Cruz had not been so careful.
Yeah. Back when I was not mad at Trump for bashing Scalia and Cruz, I had to turn Batchelor off a few times for that. Now his sub is smearing Cruz. Ugh!
I still don’t like hearing Trump smeared unfairly. It is a matter of principle. We are not to return evil for evil; we return good for evil. It is wrong to win that way. Truth is one thing. Smears, half-truths, and flat out lies are another.
Thou shalt not bear false witness. I guess no one cares about that commandment anymore.
RUBIO: Let me be very careful when answering this, because I don't think national television in front of 15 million people is the place to discuss classified information. So let me just be very clear. There is nothing that we are allowed to do under this bill that we could not do before.
Unless they are referring to remarks Rubio made outside of the debate that I cannot locate, he never accused Cruz of leaking classified information - he was referring to keeping his own remarks extra succinct.
