A Manassas City police detective, who was the lead investigator in a controversial teen “sexting” case last year, shot and killed himself outside his home Tuesday morning as police tried to arrest him for allegedly molesting two boys he met while coaching youth hockey in Prince William County.

David E. Abbott Jr., 39, was a member of the Northern Virginia-Washington D.C. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and had been an officer on the Manassas City force for 14 years. In his spare time he coached 13- and 14-year-old boys in travel hockey for the Potomac Patriots program at the Prince William Ice Center in Woodbridge, club officials said. When Prince William police learned Monday of the allegations of improper contact by Abbott over a period of years, they moved quickly.

I tried to post this earlier from a different source and it got pulled. I'd like to know why. I'm not trying to break any rules.

I kept the horrific details of the original 2014 sexting investigation out of the excerpt here, fearing that their depravity may have been what got it pulled earlier. It was discussed on FR at the time. Let's just say it was perverted and sadistic. And now, we know why. Although he had superiors go along with the idea.

I'm not trying to cause trouble by trying to post this again. It is a SERIOUS event. If I've broken any rules, please let me know.

Wow. Yes, this new and tragic event does explain a lot of the previous background.

Abbott's department said it was aware of the new investigation but did not speak with him about it prior to his suicide Tuesday.

Uh huh.

Unbelievable! I guess he had a real interest in crimes against children.

I'm guessing he probably didn't believe in Hell, but he does now.

Well it’s one scheme if one wants to see a lot of porn. Serve on an anti-porn task force that just so happens to seize a lot of it.

I am almost wondering if it would be better just to delete the porn and send the offenders to rehab as a civil case, except in egregious cases where the offenders are generating it via actual molestations. By making too big a deal out of the pictures, the devil gets a lot of face time he otherwise would be denied. Just a thought.

I'd like to know why.

Because some mods don't like these stories. Others don't like the "donutwatch" keyword.
