Britain is no longer a Christian country and should stop acting as if it is, says judge

Britain is no longer a Christian country and should stop acting as if it is, a major inquiry into the place of religion in modern society has concluded, provoking a furious backlash from ministers and the Church of England.

A two-year commission, chaired by the former senior judge Baroness Butler-Sloss and involving leading religious leaders from all faiths, calls for public life in Britain to be systematically de-Christianised.

It says that the decline of churchgoing and the rise of Islam and other faiths mean a "new settlement" is needed for religion in the UK, giving more official influence to non-religious voices and those of non-Christian faiths.

The report provoked a furious row as it was condemned by Cabinet ministers as "seriously misguided" and the Church of England said it appeared to have been "hijacked" by humanists.

The report, by the Commission on Religion and Belief in Public Life, claims that faith schools are "socially divisive" and says that the selection of children on the basis of their beliefs should be phased out.

It also accuses those who devise some RE syllabuses of "sanitising" negative aspects of religion in lessons and suggests that the compulsory daily act of worship in school assemblies should be abolished and replaced with a "time for reflection".

Hard to imagine that at one time England ruled one quarter of the world and had the largest empire the world has ever seen.

Has anybody ‘belled’ the Queen about giving up “Fedei Defensor” from her titles?

If one decides to be passive and give up, this makes sense. If one looks forward and sees that the future could be very perilous without instituting corrective measures, then this is a canary in the coal mine!

Good observation. England never really recovered after 1945, and the end of the Second World War. And that probably stemmed from the damage they received in the First world War.

We are poised to follow the same trajectory, I am sad to say.

Neither is America, for that matter. Don't really care what polls say. When you look at the core beliefs of those who call themselves "Christians"...there is a big majority who doubt or do not ascribe to the authority of God's Word...who belief in salvation through Christ alone...or even believe that every sin deserves separation from God. IF I were to guess, I would say less than 35-40% of this country are truly regenerated Christians.

About half believe in abortion and even though that is not an essential element of the faith (that disqualifies you)....I say it's an indicator of the lack of the Holy Spirit' influence on that life. The Holy Spirit attests to truth...and right....and if He was there...He would attest that abortion is murder.

So...less than half. As a whole, we are a post-modern society that has Judeo-Christian values and principles....but we are not Christian.

“Humanists”. An oxymoron.

And why is Britain no longer a Christian nation? Does it have anything to do with muslims?

Yes...we're about 10 years behind Europe. Look to them to see our future.

And then arm up best you can.

When, constitutionally, can the Queen step in?

This sounds horrible (and it is) and the article is laid out to further the meme that Christoanity is dead... but check out this blurb buried in the middle of the article -

“At the same time it highlights the growth of non-Christian faiths, especially Islam, and an explosion in the number of newer Pentecostal and evangelical Churches outside of the traditional denominations.”

Sounds like an explosion of traditional Christianity to me and the author doesn’t like that... I’m very curious to see what those number are and even more curious as to why that doesn’t warrant a better mention...

One of the underlying tenets of traditional Christianity is that it is likely to appeal to very, very few people. For them, the whole notion of the "narrow gate to eternal life" is real.

That's why I suspect a lot of them are very comfortable with the idea that they don't live in a "Christian nation."

It might have to do with their treatment of the Jews.

The Judge is right. The decadent and heretic Henry VIII set Britain on a course to return to its Druid origins. The majority of Britons today are neo pagan epicurean hedonists. They worship “mother earth”. Clearly there are more practicing Muslims in Britain than believing Christians. The very low birth rate of the endemic population underscores the decadent mindset of today’s native Britons.

And so the Great Falling Away has begun.

Some wondered what it would look like, we’ve hand hints of it for some time now.

No more Christian Schools...although she also contends it as “religious” schools, I have no doubt her recommendation excludes islam.

Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight His path. Let us be like the shepherds in the fields of that past and sing loudly with the Angels of Heaven at His return.

The “thinkers” who frame the agenda are insane. Popular culture and lifestyle in Europe and the US are in the sewer....no values, no rules, no respect for family, community, or religious values. And meantime, those that promote this sicko culture are the very ones who want Muslims to flood their countries without restraint. Huh??? They’ll all end up eliminated.
