I'm not to blame for San Bernardino
Milwaukee J-S ^ | 10 dec 2015 | Christian Schneider

Imagine my surprise last Wednesday when I found out I was complicit in a mass shooting.

Within hours of Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik killing 14 people in San Bernardino last week, social media lit up with people blaming insufficient gun control measures for the massacre. Quite often, they were accompanied by a hastily penned platitude about how "we are all responsible" for the California bloodbath. Even as details still unfolded, the New Yorker's Adam Gopnik sprinted to his keyboard to bang out an essay titled "Our Shared Blame for the Shooting in San Bernardino."

But I have good news for those suffering from guilt over last week's events: You are in no way responsible for mass shootings. And neither am I. Not one damn bit.

Perhaps it brings solace to some to feel as if they are "citizens of the world," interconnected with every action that takes place in society. No one wants to be John Donne's proverbial island, entire of itself.

But the blame for any violent act resides solely with whoever carries it out. I'm no more responsible for someone who picks up a gun and shoots another human than I am for someone who drinks too much Wild Turkey and crashes a car into a school bus or someone else who posts racist comments online.

The ridiculous meme that America and Americans are sole source for all evil that befalls other countries and occurs in our own, is a putrid lie.

America is exceptional because of if it's beauty and beneficence, leftists would have you believe we are exceptional because of our unique destructive influence on the world.

Set them straight Donald!

I’m afraid you omitted something. Considering the carnage caused by “careless and dangerous” CELL PHONE usage by stupid drivers, we should demand Enhanced Cell-Phone controls and screening of those who wish to purchase same.
The government MUST require auto makers to install (at extra cost) a device that will block cell phone signals. The carnage on the highway must be stopped.
(EXCEPT, of course for the cell-phoine I need)

And if you repeat the lie enough times, it becomes the truth in the minds of the herbivores.

“California already has the most restrictive gun laws in America; no new firearm law would have dissuaded any violent terrorist willing to die in the act of killing Americans.”

The left doest see gun control laws the way we do. It doesnt matter if CA has the most restrictive laws in the country. As long as citizens can own ANY guns at all, the laws are not restrictive enough.

The author is wrong. We are responsible for the SB attacks. We built the roads the shooters drove on, paid for the govt building where it took place, paid the salaries of the shooters and the victims. WE ALL BUILT THAT... according to the twisted psychopathic view of leftists.

I like your analogy but I would propose that anytime a cell phone is moving at more that 15mph, it shuts down. That way drivers can not use them. BUT WHAT ABOUT PASSENGERS IN THE CAR, THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE THEIRS? (I hear them yell.) Too bad, they are guilty too and must be punished. Just like gun owners.
