WASHINGTON â Under withering fire for his plan to ban Muslims from entering the United States, Donald Trump on Tuesday compared himself to FDR â who targeted US residents from Japan and other Axis powers for scrutiny during World War II.
Trump said he was âno differentâ than President Franklin D. Roosevelt, whom he called âhighly respected by all.â
âTake a look at presidential proclamations, what he was doing with Germans, Italians and Japanese, because he had to do it,â Trump said.
FDR allowed military authorities to detain and question so-called enemy aliens hailing from Germany, Japan and Italy even if they were US citizens.
The billionaire businessman declined repeated requests on MSNBC to say the internment of Japanese-Americans during the war violated American values, saying questioner Mark Halperin was trying to change the subject.
âWeâre not talking about the Japanese internment camps at all,â Trump said.

OK, I’m not for the ban, but the LW holds up FDR as their greatest symbol of socialism and progress (oxy-moron). WOW
Trump is the second coming of FDR in almost every imaginable way.
IIRC, Carter also had a ban on Iranian immigration.
Okay, I'll bite. Give me a short list.
Trump makes me smile, he is playing rope-a-dope with the biggest dopes of all.
Every adult with a brain should see that picture from the yearbook! It explains everything.
I’d take 4 terms of Trump versus the alternatives.
But Trump is calling for a temp ban on immigration of people of a religion and political ideology that is hostile to us
so which is more narrowed in focus....banning all people from a particular country or banning all people of a certain ideology that proving hostile ?
Why are we expected to take any Muslim immigrants?
What benefit to Muslims bring to our country?
Is it a benefit that we can get from some less violent source?
Don’t fall into the Liberal rabbit hole. We are not required to take ANY refugees, immigrants or travelers from anywhere. We most certainly have the right to exclude any or all.
Let us try to be objective. I realize that passions run high during elections but can we at least agree on a few conservative principles? What are a few things that conservatives agree on and have agreed on in the past? How about the 2nd Amendment, right to life, destruction of Obamacare, free market principles, property rights and low taxes. Fair? Now let us stack Donald Trump up against these benchmarks of conservatism.
2nd Amendment
Who favored the assault weapons ban?
Right to life
Who supports the right to choose?
Destroy Obamacare
Who supported Obamacare but really thought we needed nationalized healthcare?
Free market principles
Who supported bail outs, TARP, stimulus, son of stimulus?
Property rights
Who supports eminent domain being used to take private property from one to give to another at the pleasure of the government?
Low taxes
Who proposed a confiscatory 14.5% tax on the accumulated net-worth of anyone with $10M or more?
Finally, who said: “In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat. It just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans.”
Trump is the Democrat Party’s dream come true. They just don’t know it. In any other election cycle Trump supporters would be laughed off his forum. He is as far from conservative as one can get.
I applaud his new revelations regarding immigration but come on. Really? Trump??? His supporters really go along with his many and ever-changing positions? They support his stance(s) on the issues listed above?
Let me make sure I have this right. muslims around the world want to kill us because we are “infidels”. soetoro (or whatever his real name is) wants to allow who knows how many thousands of them into the country as “refugees”. Trump wants to keep them out. Therefore, Trump is “unamerican”. Is that about it?
And that's what scares me, Donnie.
(And who wouldn't want another four years of FDR right about now....)
The internment was constitutional.
We stopped trading with Brazil during WWII because we were losing too many ships.
Brazil has a large Japanese population which they did not intern.
Go figure.
Is that real?
Progressive Democrats want to ban Christianity, close or tax churches and dictate to those existing Churches what they can and can’t teach. Is there any difference?
I saw it on the internet, so I know it's for real.
