The Trans Women Who Say That Trans Women Aren’t Women [and battling social justice feminists]
Slate ^ | December 9, 2015 | Michelle Goldberg

Last month, a 42-year-old English accountant who goes by the pseudonym Helen Heaton wrote a blog post disputing the idea that trans women are women. Helen is trans herself; in the last few years, she says, she has taken all the steps the U.K.'s National Health Service requires before it authorizes gender reassignment surgery, which she plans to have in 2016. Yet she has come to reject the idea that she is truly female or that she ever will be. Though "trans women are women" has become a trans rights rallying cry, Heaton writes, it primes trans women for failure, disappointment, and cognitive dissonance. She calls it a "vicious lie."

This year, however, Heaton joined Twitter, where she began to follow the furious battles between trans rights activists and those feminists derisively known as TERFs, or trans exclusionary radical feminists. The radical feminists-who, to be clear, don't represent all feminists who think of themselves as radical-fundamentally disagree with trans activists on what being a woman means. To the mainstream trans rights movement, womanhood (or manhood) is a matter of self-perception; to radical feminists, it's a material condition. Radical feminists believe women are a subordinate social class, oppressed due to their biology, and that there's nothing innate about femininity. They think you can't have a woman's brain in a man's body because there's no such thing as a "woman's brain." As the British feminist writer Julie Bindel- a bete noire of many trans activists-put it, "Feminists want to rid the world of gender rules and regulations, so how is it possible to support a theory which has at its centre the notion that there is something essential and biological about the way boys and girls behave?"

Bruce Jenner seems to believe that he is "being a woman" by spending lots of time and money on his personal grooming and his costumes.

Feminists hate that.

Trans anything in this context is just a made up fantasy. L-O-L-A, Lola. Girls will be boys and boys will be girls.......It is simply a choice by psychologically impaired people.

The fact that Glamour Magazine chose him as one of the 25 most glamorous women of the year is a statement that men are better at being a woman than a woman is. Why the feminists aren’t fuming about that is a mystery to me.

Interesting battle lines

Maybe but both sides suffer from a self imposed rejection of the natural law.

For both it's really nothing more than the desire to have absolute autonomy about their natures ... To reject the complementarity of the sexes in Gods original design.

And the problem of claiming absolute dominion over nature becomes apparent when someone else does the same. Whose claim to absolute dominion is really absolute?

Of course, neither one. This fight is nothing more that the argument in the Garden of Eden over why the forbidden fruit was eaten.

People could be happy if only they would recognize their limited autonomy, accept Gods natural order of things, and live accordingly.

The fight of the article is the fight of original sin played out in the arena of pride ... I am who I say I am ... Not who God made me.

I think he is desperate for attention and it drove him crazy when the Kardashians got it all. He is now imitating the Kardashian girls and is getting more face time in the media. Except nobody really cares about Bruce anymore.

The "born that way" trans activists do present a problem for feminists. The idea that women are actually mentally different from men (as the trans people assert) would undermine the feminist position.

I'm so damned confused about it all...I don't know which is which and who is supposed to be who.

So...to hell with the entire subject.

I reject it...I don't care.

Tell me you're a woman...okay...tell me you're a man...okay.

I just don't give a rat's patootie.

Now, tell me you want my tax money to pay for your addadictome or your hoosie removal...then I care.

Pay for it yourself, pervert.

Leave me and my tax money out of it.

A segment of people have weird plastic surgery all the time to give themselves forked tongues, horns, weird chins, etc. Did anyone ever say that weirdo who modified himself to have the face of a big tiger was actually a real tiger because he desperately wished it was so and was willing to pay to have himself physically modified into a sort of parody of a tiger?

Nope.

This guy is going to lose.
Radical feminists who are “trans-exclusionary” or TERFs are getting drummed out of the feminist movement.
So a feminist who says the top paid female CEOs list shouldn’t be topped by someone who spent the first 20-30 years of his career as a man gets silenced as transphobic.
Likewise the feminists - including Baby Boomer leaders who wrote the modern textbooks on feminist theory - get told to shut up when they want real women getting women’s awards that Jenner received instead.

It will be interesting (from a psychological standpoint) to see what happens after all the hoopla dies down. I think it will be like a lot of people who do drastic things in order to get attention. It rarely lasts and then they are still the same damaged person they were to start with. (Tattoos come to mind. Less drastic than a sex change, but quite often a cry for attention. Look at me! I’m hip! I’m rebellious! I’m a gang member! I’m just like my favorite celebrity/athlete! I’m [whatever it is that I wish I were and that I think a tattoo will make me be]!)
