Ted Cruz: ‘I do not agree’ with Trump’s Muslim moratorium
WashTimes ^ | 12/8/15 | Seth McLaughlin -

GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz said Tuesday that he disagrees with rival Donald J. Trump's plan to ban Muslims from coming into the United States until the federal government can ensure that those coming into the nation do not pose a threat to the country.

"I do not agree with his proposal," the Texas senator said at a press conference on Capitol Hill. “I do not think it is the right solution.”

Mr. Cruz said that some have encouraged him to criticize Mr. Trump, but said he will not to so. Instead, he said he is pushing solutions aimed at putting a three year moratorium on refugees from Syria and Iraq, and giving governors more power to stop refugees from being resettled in their states.

Mr. Trump has tangled with most of the candidates in the GOP field ..with the exception of Mr. Cruz .. though he warned at a rally in South Carolina that he will respond in kind if Mr. Cruz attacks him.

Do you also write “Donald John Trump,” “Marco Antonio Rubio,” “Benjamin Solomon Carson, Sr.”? Do you refer to the founder of this site as “James C. Robinson”?

It’s really a weird affectation, dragnet2.

And Jews, thousands of whom were murdered or forced out of Spain, despite living there for hundreds of years. Yes, the Moors actually treated the Jews better than the Reconquista Christians. The Reconquista was a disaster for Iberian Judaism.

FFS, are you suggesting the Inquisition was a good idea?. As a European, I am astounded.

If Cruz said this. I just heard Cruz say that Trump has said it and they didn’t need Cruz’s voice to add to it. If Cruz said something else earlier, I have not heard it.

The irony and the way things happen... This attack in CA has really fed fear to the people There are probably many who would not be supporting Trump, had it not been for the attack.. which brought home the real frightening possibility of more and no one is safe. They want something done about it... and Trump is the only one who says what they want to hear. The other candidates are not listening to the people.. .they are falling in lock step with the media on this.

Maybe as in Riff-Rafe, huh. Who said these are the times that try men’s souls.

Why am I getting the idea that Donald Trump would wangle a way to pick up an AK47 and defend us. While Ted would be busy doing what? Arguing the fine points of gun control law, to appear before an eventual hearing at the USSC, 2 years from now.

The great thing about God (the real one) is that He can change people. But Ted has struck me as a bit green here and now we can see it. Maybe he does make more sense as Robin to Trump’s Batman.

Ted did not blink, he ran away. Now I’m watching Paul to see if he goes wobbly too.

"The president has the legal authority to ban people from any nation and class that he deems detrimental to the interests of the US."

It's my understanding that is the exclusive domain of the Congress.

Am I mistaken?

Fickle. Maybe examine the evidence before so quickly jumping the Cruz ship.

Jumping Ship
I haven’t jumped ship. I still support Cruz as the best of the available options. But I always keep an eye out for a life preserver as it is only prudent to do so.

Evidence
Okay, what is the evidence? His own words. I disagree with Ted Cruz on this. Vehemently.

Fickle
I am not some kind of hypnotized sycophant that praises the glory of Ted Cruz no matter what he says or does or gets insulted when someone else points out his flaws. He is just as accountable as a candidate as anyone else and he made the statement, no one else.

Some issues are, in the grand scheme of things, not so important when considering a candidate for office. Trying to find a happy middle ground on immigration with muslim terrorists is not one of them.

How about we just halt ALL immigration? Couldn’t mooselimbs sneak in disguised as Mexicans or South Americans anyway?

...giving governors more power to stop refugees from being resettled in their states...

Maybe it has something to do with this....Cruz is joining TX Gov Abbott for Abbott’s Terrorist Refugee Infiltration Prevention Act presser.

Getting a bit of flak on Social Media....folks are demanding action...not more talk.

Terrorists might take note. If they really DO succeed in terrorizing, Americans don’t do what the Swedish do. Americans get mad!

I'm inching out on a limb here. But I think it makes sense. I still think this is a done deal that Cruz will be Trump's Veep. WHAT IF this is what Trump actually wants is for Cruz to gently disagree with him so that when Cruz shows up on the ticket he can appeal to a wider audience and folks won't accuse him of being a cookie cutter version of Trump and this in turn would set Cruz up to be POTUS when it's his turn to run after a successful Trump administration.

Trump: The ultimate half-way measure.

“I have worked with many Muslims over the years. None of them have, nor will they ever commit terrorism.”

Farook’s co-workers probably would have said the same thing a day before they were killed or wounded.

Um... Ted’s getting a clue by four now.

Good boy, I knew you weren’t totally stupid, Mr. Cruz....

“Senator Cruz is trying to have it both ways. Half-way measures NEVER work. Giving governors more power? Why? So the courts can overturn their power?
Think of how dumb the Cruz suggestion is. Once one governor lets them in, they can travel where-ever they want. “

He’s better than most of the rest, but his demeanor has always come across to me as that of yet another glad-handling politician who, when push comes to shove, will equivocate and wont make the tough calls. Tired of politicians putting on a show. I think most of us are done with that.

Got issues with Trump, but he doesn’t seem afraid to do what he thinks is right and unpopular.

Wait....didn’t I just see a thread here, earlier, touting how Ted and Pander Paul were the only ones using word ‘moratorium’?

Now, Cruz saying he doesn’t agree with Trump’s ‘moratorium’?? Someone has some splaining to do, to Cruz....this is confusing!

Senators Cruz and Paul Use the “M” Word, Moratorium! Trump Follows

Trump plus God at his back (as opposed to on his sleeve) ARE a full measure, chum.

Our problem is not the Muslims I study with...

No, apostate Muslims aren't a big problem, at least not until they become radical. The problem is with a cult called Islam. Islam and its followers need to be dealt with the same way the world dealt with Nazis and Nazism.
