Communists never give up power voluntarily.

He can do exactly nothing if people refuse to comply. It is on US whether or not we allow him to rule.

There was a period in Zimbabwe when the opposition had a majority in the legislature but President Robert Mugabe held control of the police and military.

Those are Maduro’s backstops against the opposition as I see it.

HE says he “trusted in the wisdom” of the Venezuelan voter, but now he sees that the country has not “heard what he’s been telling them” and that it’s “his fault” for not making the message clearer, so he’s going to have to overturn the results of the election and suspend new elections until such time as he has a chance to be crystal clear about why the people need Socialist leadership for as far as the eye can see. My interpretation. /s

You are exactly right.

How corrupted are they?

Chavez would stage situations to find out who remained loyal to him (then heads would roll), I’m sure that factors into what happens.

we face in the next 13 months with Zero doing his level best to ruin as much as possible

For that, the next POTUS should immediate order Zero's detention and court martial down in Gitmo under Article 106a of the UCMJ. After 8 years of a banana republic ran by a traitor, it's time he face the piper before a military tribunal (not a bunch of mentally retarded peers that make up a D.C. jury).

That’s a tragedy. By all real-world (non-socialist) logic, Venezuela should be a rich country. But the wealth gained during the commodities boom in the early 2000s was wasted by Chavez. And Madura is dumber, has no luck and no charisma compared to Chavez

While someone here quoted Maduro as saying he would respect the election results, my local political sounding board says Maduro has promised to NOT let the winners take power. My friend also fears a nasty civil war could be possible.

I went to your link and read several of the blogs posted there. Here is one written a day before the election examining who would fight for the Maduro regime the most, motivation and general speculation about what various results might cause. A lot of comments after some of the blog posts.

I like the Che Guevarra impersonator pictured in the article. Guess he'll have to go to Vegas now.

If Maduro and what’s left of the Chavez family are still in the country they best beat it with their Million$ and soon. I’m sure Odunga is rubber stamping their Visas as I write this.

He can do exactly nothing if people refuse to comply. It is on US whether or not we allow him to rule.

But we do comply. I can't put my finger on even one who doesn't actively endorse the federal government either by taxation or benefit of same, and that's the lifeblood of it.

Many speak out. No amount of prattling, however eloquent, has any effect. Effective speech is from citizens standing at the gates of the powers that be and demanding: Come out of there.

In other words, there is no money remaining in the treasury so the left handed off the government to a party that has no chance in hell of bringing the country out of its financial crisis. Then the left will claim the right destroyed the country and that is why they need to be in power.

The old leftist regime goes down the memory hole and the new Conservatives are blamed. Wash, rinse and repeat.
