The Socialists have gained 46 seats, with another 22 yet to be declared.

President Maduro has admitted defeat, saying his party recognized 'these adverse results'.

The opposition alliance, made up of centre and conservative parties, is confident of ultimately taking 112 seats after 17 years of socialist rule.

According to senior figures in the movement, that would allow them to pass laws allowing the release of political prisoners and to reverse.......

The opposition could reach a 2/3 majority if it wins enough of the undecided seats (112 or more).

But what will Maduro do? Strip the assembly of its powers by using his majority in a 'lame duck session' before the new one takes office? Or some sort of coup?

For now Maduro claims he accepts the results.

Maduro should now be placed under arrest, charged with treason and with crimes against humanity.

Blogger Daniel Duquenal posted on http://daniel-venezuela.blogspot.com/ in the last hour his analysis of the results.

“What happened today in Venezuela is truly momentous, better than the wildest hopes the opposition could have ever had a year ago......No way Jose!.....As I type this I am half drunk with the bottle I drowned on my own over the excruciating long wait of night. No, I am no lush......”

If you follow Argentina as well, the departing leftist radical (and Maduro ally) Kirchner is doing everything she can to sabotage the transition and period and limit Macri’s ability to govern before he assumes office on Thursday. Maduro will do the same. Leftists of that ilk cheat and steal and have no shame.

I am really surprised. What kind of socialist would allow citizens to decide elections? Maybe things are so bad he wants the opposition to own the crash. Or just plain old take the money and run. Anyway I didn’t expect this result.

Oh, of course. Who knows what we face in the next 13 months with Zero doing his level best to ruin as much as possible before Trump comes in and has to spend years undoing a fraction of the damage he has inflicted.

They needed to keep up veneer, the legitimacy of their regime but unless they can get the “lame duck” session of the National Assembly to eliminate any powers over President Maduro and his government, there could be trouble.

The regime will find ways I’m sure maybe even assassination or something like that if they intend to prevent a 2/3 majority from reversing their rule.

The shortages of food, medicine and other stuff has been horrible.

Long lines at stores with armed thugs from the regime standing guard, everyone having to be fingerprint scanned to prevent any ‘hoarding’ before they could enter stores to buy anything (if it was on the shelf) and the list goes on.

In the United States, the period between election day and inauguration day is, in my opinion, at least a few weeks too long. Obama has PLENTY of time to inflict more damage in a spiteful fit of rage.

"The environment is suffering damage that could be irreversible - global warming, the greenhouse effect, the melting of the polar ice caps, the rising sea level, hurricanes - with terrible social occurrences that will shake life on this planet."

"I believe this idea has a strong connection with reality. I don't think we have much time. Fidel Castro said in one of his speeches I read not so long ago, 'tomorrow could be too late, let's do now what we need to do'."

"I believe it is time that we take up with courage and clarity a political, social, collective and ideological offensive across the world - a real offensive that permits us to move progressively, over the next years, the next decades, leaving behind the perverse, destructive, destroyer, capitalist model and go forward in constructing the socialist model to avoid barbarism and beyond that the annihilation of life on this planet."

That’s what I think, he wants them to own the crash. And the leftists will believe it.

“For now Maduro claims he accepts the results.”

He’s been rather a failure, maybe he’ll just throw in the towel. Hopefully “Chavismo” was a one man show and now it can be over.
