8 Ways This Facebook Meme Is Wrong About Treating Guns Like Abortions
RedState ^ | 12/5/15 | Dan McLaughlin

The litany set forth above has shown up in my Facebook feed oh, three or four times now, at least; if you have friends on Facebook or Twitter or even Pinterest who are socially liberal on both guns and abortion, you probably have seen it too. More than anything, it’s the sheer question-begging dishonesty of the thing that offends me. It would be difficult to list all the ways this is misleading and deceptive, but let’s cover eight of the big ones, and hopefully save all of us the labor of having to type this out every time this thing pops up, Whac-a-Mole style, on social media.

1. To start with, when a gun purchase is complete, nobody has died. This is not true with an abortion, which in all cases ends a human life. The overwhelming majority of gun purchases never result in a human being dying or being injured. CDC statistics claim about 1.5 million U.S. gun deaths since 1968, including homicides, suicides, and accidents. That’s a big number, even over 47 years in a country of 300 million people. But there are 300 million guns in the United States. Do the math: even if every single gun death was the result of a different gun, that’s less than half of 1% of all guns. By contrast, the number of abortions in the U.S. is more than 57 million since 1973.

2. There’s a reference here to “parental permission.” No woman over 18 is required to get this for an abortion. Whereas, federal law prohibits selling a handgun to anyone under 18, ever, and federally licensed gun dealers may not sell a handgun to anyone under 21 or a long gun to anyone under 18. So the abortion laws are considerably more liberal ..

In leftwing states you don’t need parental permission and can get abortions for free on taxpayer dime. Thats what liberals want?

I avoided social networking like the plague until I recently concluded that it was the only way I could contact a few people from my past who meant something to me. I’m at an age and state of health where if I don’t do it now, I never will. I’m glad I finally caved in. My eyes have been opened to levels of leftist depravity, deception and hate that go way beyond what I previously experienced. It’s not that didn’t know the left is absurd and evil, but now I can clearly see that the left has gone completely over the edge. Most leftist memes on FB are so logically and truth challenged that they are stunning in their bold deception. I see it as a good thing. Encourage these vacuous, hate filled, intolerant, Christian despising, anti American despots into absolute insanity. They are like stinking rotting fruit on tree, disgusting to even Democrats who haven’t completely lost touch with reason.

Planned Parenthood kills a room full of people every day.

I like how the young man buying a gun is going to murder a room full of people, but the young woman getting an abortion just wants some “health care.” No intellectual dishonesty there.

It never pays to get into these liberal meme wars on facebook, but I fed my liberal troll friends on facebook when I saw this one, and posted the following:

Or we can restrict abortions to only those over 21, the way we do with handgun purchases, or force those who wish to have an abortion to pay $500 to apply for a government permit, and the government can refuse to issue a permit if they don't feel the applicant needs one, as we do in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

Kind of forgot that the Constitution has an amendment that states that govt, shall not infringe the right to keep and bare arms. I can’t remember the article that says a woman may kill her unborn child. Will someone refresh my memory as to the clause in the constitution that
allows this.

If, as liberals assert, the fetus is not a person deserving rights and protections and is just a blob of protoplasm, while comparing this to gun-related deaths of actual (post-birth) humans clearly having rights and protections, they have thrown off any logic that would make sense even from their own perspective.

If they can’t pay attention to their own logic, what makes you think yours will fare any better?
