Emanuel dismisses Garry McCarthy as Chicago Police Department superintendent
Chicago Tribune ^ | December 1, 2015 | By Bill Ruthhart and Hal Dardick

Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Tuesday announced he has dismissed Chicago police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, citing a lack of public trust in the police leadership in the wake of the high-profile shooting that eventually led to a white officer being charged with first-degree murder in the death of a black teen shot 16 times in a Southwest Side street last year.

"Superintendent McCarthy knows that a police officer is only as effective as when he has the trust of those he serves," Emanuel said at a City Hall news conference where he appointed a task force to look at police accountability.

Emanuel said he and McCarthy on Sunday began discussing the future of the Police Department and "the undeniable fact that the public trust in the leadership of the department has been shaken and eroded."

"This morning, I formally asked for his resignation," said Emanuel, who said McCarthy can be proud of his record. "Now is the time for fresh eyes and new leadership to confront the challenges the department and our community and our city are facing as we go forward."

Emanuel said he asked new First Deputy Superintendent John Escalante to serve as acting superintendent during a "thorough" search. . .

The fundametal problem of Chicago is that it has two classes of inhabitants:

a) Predominantly white professionals who have over twice the median household income;

b)Poor Mexicans and black ghetto trash

Group (a) wants lower taxes, effective infrastructure and low crime;

Group (b) wants as many do-nothing patronage jobs as possible, more freebies and no law enforcement.

Emmanuel has to keep (a) in the city to keep it from becoming Detroit, but he needs (b) to get elected.

The traditional mechanism for squaring this circle is massive corruption: bloated public employee payrolls and lavish benefits at both the city and county level, payoffs to black preachers to keep blacks on the Dem reservation and illegal alien friendly policies that illegally open up welfare services to Mexicans.

The problem is Rahm is running out of money to keep the wriggling mass of black and Hispanic parasites he needs to get elected happy.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel has but to look in any mirror to see guilt.
Mookabooker would NEVER have been re-elected had the video been allowed in to the public domain prior to the election/
Chicago folks ought to get some tar and feathers and visit city hall.

Just an example of what the state of police-community relations are these days. Chicago, Baltimore, Ferguson: they’re all the same now thanks to Facebook, Twitter and Youtube......................

My guess is, she was sitting on that video and the charges for a year because Emanuel did not want it released before the election.
Garry McCarthy now knows what loyalty to a politician will get you and if the need arises so will the prosecutor.

In the situations where the grievances weren’t utterly ginned up (and this Chicago situation might be one) it is useful to look into why. Can’t just blame it all on some scapegoat like media exposure.

if the chef sent the info to the prosecutor, the chief should say, no, I did my job.

Looking at the kind of corruption too. Different situations have different kinds of sin.

Public trust in Emanuel isn’t that high, either. As I recall, he barely survived a primary challenge last year, in Chicago of all places!!

Kelsey Grammar was starring in a series called Boss. He was the powerful, corrupt mayor of chicago. IIRC The dems wanted it cancelled. Too real.

It wasn't a primary since Chicago has a "nonpartisan" election. He got forced into a runoff and beat his opponent by twelve points.

After seeing the video, it took a whole year to decide to indict?.............or did the GJ take forever?.........................

They had to wait until Rahmbo was safely re-elected first.

Exactly. The protesters were calling for him to step down as well. How likely is that to happen?

McCarthy is the same fascist who said that Americans should only be allowed to own muskets because those were the type of firearms owned by citizens when the country was founded.

Good riddance to him.

But not before settling with the family, keeping a lid on the case & video for over a year, while he got reelected.

You are SO right! Emanuel kept things quiet as he faced re-election and a runoff. Crime has really escalated in areas like Lakeview, Wrigleyville and Boystown. No cops are seen. Alderman Tunney is a total incompetent. The whole lot needs to be fired. Clean house...

I truly believe what the Bible says in Paul’s letter to Timothy: For the LOVE of money is the root of ALL evil............not money in and of itself, as some try to twist the words around to mean, but the actual LOVE of it, being a form of idolatry....................

A generation ago, we, as a nation, would never have heard of the death of Michael Brown. It would have remained a local story and a final ending of it. But now, rumor mongers and people with an agenda to accomplish, leap to the forefront of stories like these in order to magnify them and themselves at the same time. They are despicable people, whose only interest is in creating chaos, hate, distrust and suspicion upon the minds of an ignorant people.......................
