Ann Coulter may be right: Donald Trump sees post-Paris poll bump
Birmingham News ^ | 1/17/15 | Leada Gore

In the wake of last week's deadly terrorist attacks in Paris, controversial conservative commentator Ann Coulter said the events likely secured the White House for Republican candidate Donald Trump, who has taken a hard line on immigration issues.

A new poll shows she may be right.

The poll, taken Nov.13-16, shows Trump with a 19 point lead over his closest challenger, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson. The poll is one of the first conducted since the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris when Islamic militants, including at least one who is believed to have immigrated to France, killed as many as 140 people in a series of coordinated attacks.

The Morning Consult poll showed Trump with 38 percent support among likely Republican primary voters and Republican-leaning independents. Carson was the choice for 19 percent. Trump's polling numbers are up 4 percent from the previous week and 7 percent from Oct. 29-Nov. 1.

Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio both polled 7 percent, followed by Jeb Bush at 6 percent. No other Republican candidates polled higher than 3 percent.

The poll also shows 22 percent of voters identified national security issues as a key factor in their thinking about the presidential election and that 36 percent thought ISIS and homegrown terrorism were the biggest threats to the U.S.

Trump: "I'd deport them'

The Paris attacks have brought the issue of immigrant resettlement to the forefront.

Earlier this year, President Obama has announced intentions to bring 85,000 additional immigrants, including 10,000 from Syria, to the U.S. in 2016. That plan had been criticized by Republicans, with governors from more than half the states – including Alabama – telling Obama they won't accept the Syrian refugees.

Speaking in Knoxville, Tennessee Monday night, Trump said if elected president, he would deport all Syrian refugees who settle in the U.S.

"Anybody that's brought into this country from the migration is going to be out," Trump said. "We're not gonna do it. We're gonna have a country again. We're gonna have borders. We're gonna have a country again. Right now we don't have a country."

Trump said he would prefer the U.S. construct safe zones with Syria to protect refugees. That idea has been proposed by Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Alabama, who has also advised Trump on his domestic immigration policy.

Oh wait, these poll numbers were after his rant on Carson.

Remember those rants we’re going to be his undoing?

LOL

Some folks don’t have a single clue.

My liberal friends are remarkably crabby right now. Coincidence? They hate Trump.

Amazing

We were in Ste Denis ten years ago to shop at the flea market. It was very crowded. No French people. I wasn’t allowed out of the car. Ok onward.

What happened last Friday is a surprise is what all the fox people are saying. They didn’t ask me. They never ask me

I told my liberal friends all they need to know about BO years ago

Now they have a hard time talking to me. How are they supposed to hate Trump? He wants to protect the country

Of course a theater is going to be raided and kids mercilessly murdered

Just duh

When you get right to it, most voters hunger for one of two things from their government - benefits and protection.

When benefits are most important, Democrats win because they are the Santa Claus Party. The more goodies they can pass out, the more people will vote for them. But their record on security is laughably inept.

When security is the most important, Republicans win because they posture themselves as the law-and-order, pro-military party but they try to clamp down on benefits.

The pendulum is swinging towards craving security the more ISIS commits these random acts of terror. The more that happens, the more it benefits GOP candidates who “talk tough” and, right now, that’s Trump.

It doesn’t matter that some of his solutions seem a bit oddball and he has no experience running a government, he promises to get tough with terrorists and that’s what the voters want to hear.

My bet is that 70%+ of all Americans agree and the other 25-30% will never show common sense on any issue.

That was a very good speech. 10,000 there and he from time to time interrupted himself saying, “Look! They’re still coming!”

I agree with your comments regarding freebies and security.

Trump has at least 100 times the executive experience of the other nomination seeking Republican’s combined.

Further, Trump has over six times the executive experience of Obama.

If you added the executive experience of Obama, Clinton, Kerry, Biden, and the total Republican candidates other than Trump, they wouldn’t have 20% of Trump’s executive experience.

Not one of these men had their own money on the line, ever.

Trump is probably the most qualified chief executive to ever seek the office of the presidency.

He has been directing, negotiating, wheeling and dealing for over 40 years. He took a -$150 million dollar net worth and turned it into a multi-billion dollar enterprise employing a small city worth of employees, over 22,500 people.

He has multi level management under him in his enterprises. He is briefed and kept up to date on each segment of his holdings. He reviews and takes executive action as needed.

He has dealt with politicians, cities, and governments, around the world.

He is a larger than life national and international player.

His management team is sought after around the world.

He probably has more employees than a number of state governments do.

This idea he hasn’t any experience running a government seems very silly to me.

None the less, it’s a view that is broadly accepted.

While technically true, I don’t believe there has ever been a president with a quarter of the global chief executive experience Trump has going in.

It’s making them crabby. Are they planning to be crabby for eight years? If they are I can tell you these people will never see that we’ve had to put up with horro for eight years. They’ll just stop talking to me. Babies. I can take hearing liberal ideas. I know they’re wrong. I just tune them out

They can’t take conservative thought

'It doesn’t matter that some of his solutions seem a bit oddball and he has no experience running a government...'

Because the conventional, 'solutions,' and people with experience running government have done so much better...

...Trump is gathering an enthusiastic following because of, not, in spite of, his unorthodoxy.

yep, you hit the nail on the head.

The american people have become infantilized and demand either a mommy (democrat) or a daddy (republican) to take care of them.

I love Trumps message but, he’s just got to get more depth into his speeches or he is going to be wide open to mockery and ridicule like candidate has ever seen.

Meanwhile, rather than calling a press conference, Gov Bobby Jindal resigned his presidential campaign live on Fox News.

Take that ABC,NBC,CBS, CNN, New York Times et al

Good move. His campaign was going nowhere. He's a heck of a lot smarter than Jeb, that's clear.
