Where America’s newest citizens come from, by state

As America becomes more diverse, that is being reflected in the home countries of those choosing to become American citizens.

Nearly 800,000 people decided to become American citizens in the 12 months that ended Sept. 30, 2013 — and more than a third of them came from Asia.

Asians comprised the biggest group of new Americans by region, according to recent data from the Department of Homeland Security, edging out those from North America, in which DHS includes those from Central America and the Caribbean.

Mexicans remain the single largest group of foreigners who were naturalized as citizens. But by state they are the biggest group in only 24. Among the remaining 26 states plus the District of Columbia, 10 other nationalities claim the top spot, as this map shows.

The author writes that Mexicans "are the biggest group in only 24 {states}." Why is 1st in 48% - with 10 others (countries) sharing the other 52% - minimized with "only?"

Could the author be hiding proof of Trump's point?

Remember immigrants vote more than two to one Dem. Naturalizing almost a million a year just adds hundreds of thousands of Dems to the rolls every year.

It seriously looks like Latino are going to be the deciding voters in 10 years. I don’t know if Republicans can get a chunk of them or not. I mean George did but still only 45 percent and both elections were the closest in history.

It is not a matter of if, but when.

Uh..two little points about that map. 1 - What's "diverse" about the dominant group of "immigrants"? It's overwhelmingly from the country next door...Mexico. And they don't see themselves as "immigrants", but rather the rightful owners taking back "their land". Got that lecture again yesterday from one of The New Rulers.

2 - Some people here say that "latinos" will be the dominant voting group in a few years. Why should we Americans accept that? They aren't Americans, except by judicial fiat. We don't want to be ruled by foreigners loyal to another country, another people.

Let's get rid of Birthright citizenship for the children of illegals, restrict immigration from Mexico and South America to a trickle by getting rid of "family re-unification" preferences in immigration, abolish dual nationality in voting, restore preferences for nationals of European countries and tell the rest of the planet that if they don't reciprocate on immigration laws then we will not either. There are no Caucasian dominant cities in China or Japan or Korea or anywhere in Southeast Asia. Why is it considered their "right" to do that here? Freedom doesn't mean that any other country is "free" to invade and take over. It means that one nation - a self defining populace - has the right to govern itself without a Monarch.

And foremost we will start re-structuring American tax, labor and immigration laws to favor American families, like any sensible nation would. Our current government works against us night and day, and clearly favors any foreign group over us. Time to retire these traitors.

In our country’s recent history we’ve celebrated diversity in our population as if it were a good thing. However, one look at world history will show you that no country with a diverse population of different races, languages, and religion has long survived.

Diversity and multiculturalism are not strengths.
