Israeli special forces rescue last Jews in Aleppo

It was recently revealed that Israeli special forces carried out a daring operation to rescue the last Jewish family in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

The Jewish Chronicle reports that preparation for the mission began months in advance. First an Israeli-American businessman named Moti Kahana sent a message to the family, whose name has not been released, that he wanted to get them out of the war-torn country. The family was aware of how dangerous Syria was, but they were too afraid to even take the chance on escaping.

Kahana, who has a number of connections with rebel forces, soon heard reports that ISIS was closing in on the family and decided to get them out, whether they liked it or not.

Without revealing precisely how or with whom he coordinated his plans, Kahana set the wheels in motion for the IDF to make another tally in its history of saving stranded Jews, a list that already includes the legendary stories of Yemen and Ethiopia.

Once the time came, three soldiers knocked on the family's front door. The 88-year-old matriarch answered, fearing that Assad's soldiers had come to take them all away. Instead, the soldiers ordered the seven people present that they could each take one bag and that they must get into a waiting minibus.

One woman, who is referred to as Gilda, was married to a Muslim man and had converted to Islam. While the rest of the family quickly received Israeli identity cards and rehomed in Ashkelon, the Jewish Agency informed Gilda that people who voluntarily convert to a religion other than Judaism lose their right of return.

It’s long past time for Jews to leave muslim countries and countries with significant muslim populations, such as Europe. This family waited too long.

That family was safe in that country where Assad ruled. Damascus also has a very small Jewish population. Syria also had Christians with Churches and monasteries. Iran has a small jewish population complete with Synagogues.

So we decided to obey the Saudis and establish a Sunni government there. You know like Saudi Arabia that has no Churches or Synagogues. And where Jews are forbidden.

Thank god the IDF pulled this off.

Yes, but I stand by my comment.

I'm hardcore, I don't believe there are moderate muslims. I don't believe muslims can coexist with Jews and infidels. I understand there have been Jews living amongst muslims for a very long time.

Does anyone really think Isis was impressed by them and let them through a checkpoint? If so that was an awesome feat.

Awesome operation, IDF, and prayers of thanks and gratitude to the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for protecting that family and the IDF soldiers involved through the conclusion of this operation.

Most people don't realize Assad is an Alawite, and Alawites will tolerate Infidels in their midst.
Even going to the point of protecting them.-Tom

There are two things Muslims love more than Allah, money and sex. They’ve even been known to blow themselves up over the mere idea of receiving 72 virgins!

” The Israelis have been trying to hide this story. They screwed up.”

I assumed that married the Muslim guy VOLUNTARILY, not by being forced. If so, how is that Israel’s mistake?

Yes, I agree with you .. but some Muslims will co-exist .. because they are using the relationship to get info on people and movements of military, etc.

I believe the Jews have finally come to realize that very fact.

The story of Gilda is interesting. Seems like a missed PR opportunity to me, turned into potentially bad PR. Another thought would be how many choices for Jewish males would this woman have had in Aleppo, Syria? Does Syria allow (or recognize) interfaith marriage?

“Does Syria allow (or recognize) interfaith marriage?”

I’m sure they did, IN THE PAST. The Assad’s didn’t seem to have a problem with who you were or what you believed, as long as you didn’t try to overthrow them.

...but the new kids in town, TOTALLY DIFFERENT STORY.

I don’t know for a fact but I am pretty sure that Syria does not allow interfaith marriage. AFAIK none of the countries in the ME have civil marriage, only clergy can do marriage and the clergy in all these countries is controlled by the fundamentalists. Neither does Israel. The government in Israel will recognize interfaith marriage for purposes of family, school, benefits etc but AFAIK the ceremony itself cannot be performed in Israel. I don’t know if Arab countries recognize interfaith like Israel does. I kinda doubt it.

I also think these countries require listing of a person’s religion in all papers, passports, ID cards, government files etc. It is very different from the western world where we consider religion and genealogy a private matter (though some European countries issue ‘family books’ to the husband, wife at marriage and even children regardless of mother’s marital status, and these books are official documents to bestow family rights, and they track for generations). All this is the long way to say I would be surprised if Syria did allowed Muslim+Christian marriage without first conversion to Islam.

Alawite is Muslim, aligned with the Shia of Iran. Kurds are also Muslim aligned with the Sunni. With so few Jewish people in Syria it is unlikely Gilda could find suitable Jewish mate. I doubt the story will get a lot of play but it could have been bad PR. We here in the US would not break up a family nor send refugees back into a war zone. They sent the terrorists who took over the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem in 2002 to the Netherlands and the UK as part of a deal but can’t find a spot for Gilda? I also wonder if she could not have claimed asylum once she made it to Turkey? Or, if they helped her flee west to a place she could ask for asylum. With all those people streaming into Europe (from all over the ME) it seems a little awkward to me that she was not given another option besides a refugee camp or Aleppo. Especially now that their subterfuge has been exposed, some embarrassed ISIS or Syrian forces could exact revenge.

Assad helped the Jihadis during the Iraq invasion and allowed Terrorist camps in Syria and allowed them to plan attacks on US forces. The persecution in Iran and Syria of Christians may be mild compared to ISIS but they are still persecuted. Just look at that preacher in jail.

Syria also funnels the missiles to Palestinian terrorists who routinely lob missiles at Israel.
