Biden Admits Plagiarism in School But Says It Was Not 'Malevolent' (09/18/1987)

WASHINGTON, Sept. 17—     Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., fighting to salvage his Presidential campaign, today acknowledged ''a mistake'' in his youth, when he plagiarized a law review article for a paper he wrote in his first year at law school.

Mr. Biden insisted, however, that he had done nothing ''malevolent,'' that he had simply misunderstood the need to cite sources carefully. And he asserted that another controversy, concerning recent reports of his using material from others' speeches without attribution, was ''much ado about nothing.''

~snip~

The plagiarized article, ''Tortious Acts as a Basis for Jurisdiction in Products Liability Cases,'' was published in the Fordham Law Review of May 1965. Mr. Biden drew large chunks of heavy legal prose directly from it, including such sentences as: ''The trend of judicial opinion in various jurisdictions has been that the breach of an implied warranty of fitness is actionable without privity, because it is a tortious wrong upon which suit may be brought by a non-contracting party.'' Just One Footnote

In his paper, Mr. Biden included a single footnote to the Fordham Law Review article.

In a letter defending himself, dated Nov. 30, 1965, Mr. Biden pleaded with the faculty not to dismiss him from the school.

''My intent was not to deceive anyone,'' Mr. Biden wrote. ''For if it were, I would not have been so blatant.''

At another point, the young Mr. Biden said that ''if I had intended to cheat, would I have been so stupid?''

Just pointing out the obvious double standard here. Democrats lie, cheat and steal. It’s what they do.

Poor Dr. Carson is the victim of a vicious lie campaign, and he gets no free pass.

Except that he still has his honor and integrity.

E.J. Dione, Jr. Enough said. He won’t be writing anything positive about Carson. He might, however, end up defending Politico with the “it was not malicious” gambit.

He also (verbatum) plagiarized a campaign speech for President (1988?) and ended up having to drop out of the race. Yet, if he ran for President today he would get a large percentage of the democrat vote.

Democrats have no shame, and their voters hold them to zero standards.

“Just pointing out the obvious double standard here. ‘

Yes and the obvious reply is: It doesn’t matter whether it was intentional or not or malevolent or not.

Please note: I created information literacy programs for universities and sat on the review board that disciplined university student for plagiarism. I am the expert here. Not Biden

The opposite of “malevolent” is “benevolent”, so it’s impossible for plagiarism to be benevolent, especially in politics.

Biden said that ‘’if I had intended to cheat, would I have been so stupid?’’

Yes, he is THAT stupid. Now we all know it.

It’s a good thing he made a career out of politics. I doubt he would have made it as a lawyer. Neither would Hillary or Bill.

I’m sure Joe’s imaginary coal mining relatives would vouch for his honesty. Doubt if Secret Service agents are too keen on him, though.

Hillary also said that she got turned down as an astronaut, was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, and on and on..

I’ll bet that she doesn’t even like enchiladas as she claimed to some hispanic caucus.
