Ben Carson: Egyptians used the pyramids to store grain, not bury the pharaohs
Business Insider ^ | 11/5/15 | Maxwell Tani

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is not backing down from a belief that drew widespread attention on Wednesday - that the Egyptian pyramids were built as grain silos, not elaborate tombs.

In a 1998 commencement speech at Andrews University unearthed by BuzzFeed, Carson pointed to hermetically sealed chambers as a sign the pyramids were used by Egyptians to store grain and food.

"My own personal theory is that Joseph built the pyramids to store grain," Carson said in the speech, referring to the biblical figure.

He added: "Now, all the archaeologists think that they were made for the pharaohs' graves. But, you know, it would have to be something awfully big - when you stop and think about it, and I don't think it'd just disappear over the course of time - to store that much grain."

Hahaha. Hardly. Trump would have had the reporter cowering, or ejected.

"I think its a loony idea but I fail to see wat it has to do with anything."

I would think having loony ideas matters.

There might be a grain of truth to it, but I’d take it with a grain of salt. Maybe the Sphinx ate the grain. But Ben appears to be going against the grain on this one.

Trump has his daughter, as well as a bunch of high-level female executives in his organization who will quickly put paid to this sort of nonsense.

Not that that will stop Hillary. She certainly can't run on her record, so smear tactics is basically all she has. She's already trotting out these shibboleths with Sanders. It will be interesting to see how one Marxist responds to another on this point.

Sorry, you and Carson are both incorrect.

I have actually been to Saqqara and have been to the step pyramid, the red pyramid and the Giza pyramids. They are NOT primarily used as grain storage facilities.

Break it up girls ... you’re BOTH pretty!

Yeah, I’m a sucker for it, it’s stupid and funny like a `pull my finger’ joke, so it’s good for morale: the will to survive being as important as the skill in these dark days,
but it says nothing about Carson, a good man and candidate,
OK enough w/ the fart jokes, so how many time DOES it have to be posted?
Grrrrrrrrr (breaking wind)

“That is a stretch. Why use a pyramid shape of colossal proportions instead of a series of smaller cylindrical silos that could be easily built around the kingdom? I thought Joseph was supposed to be a smart guy.”

I don’t know why. Very thick stone produced cool walls and interior chamber that made the grain keep well for a longer period of time? Was it hot in the desert? Maybe that was “smart” back then.

Maybe the space aliens has a shrink ray that would miniaturize all that grain so it would fit in those tiny burial chambers.

Check the story from Genesis. He didn’t use a damn pyramid.

No room in the Steps for storage.

I don't buy that the step pyramid was used for grain storage but this is interesting:

"Under the step pyramid is a labyrinth of tunneled chambers and galleries that total nearly 6 km in length" - Wikipedia

It’s a preposterous statement. It is going to drag Carson down.

The complex under the Steps is quite vast and was, most likely used for storage. I would posit that Joseph used silos.

Ancient alien authorities believe the pyramids were used to launch grain to the Gods on the autumnal equinox of the vernal solstice. Actually, I personally like Ben. But forgive me for now not being able to stop thinking about Uncle Ben’s Rice.

“Check the story from Genesis. He didn’t use a damn pyramid.”

Well, that ends that discussion. If it was one. My point was that it may or may not have been original constructed and re-purposed for a variety of reasons, none of which might be known definitively to any of us. Including you.
