I was taught to have it “broken” as shown, but to have the barrel down and in front. The shorter stock sticking out behind you is less of a hazard. Although it took me awhile to get over my aversion of getting finger prints/oil all over the barrels.

I'd think that would be uncomfortable holding onto the barrel if it's just been fired.

It is when you do a round of skeet with only two people!

Back when Gore was running and that picture came out, a Vietnam vet on FR listed all the things wrong with the picture, starting with all the crap that he was packing that no combat soldier would. He tied everything he could onto his pack and wore his hot rainsuit, etc.

Many were stationed at permanent relatively secure sites. Vietnamese maids were available who included doing laundry among their duties. For about three dollars a month a soldier would have available a clean and starched uniform every day, or if, for example, he was a duty driver during the monsoon season, several times a day.

I remember some female reporter going after Sarah Palin about carrying her gun in ask unsafe manner. Many people explained to the ignorant female reporter that the breech was open, and therefore the gun was safe.

RE Ted:
He’s carrying a breech break over-and-under, it’s OPEN, UNLOADED, and carried safely in one of the proper methods for carrying a Superposed or a side-by-side. The other method is open, barrels down.
