It turns out that you don’t have to get good grades or even show up to class often to graduate from high school in New York.

Several students from New York City have spoken out about passing classes they know they should have failed and receiving high school diplomas they feel they didn’t earn.

Melissa Mejia, a senior at William Cullen Bryant High School, was surprised to find out she was due to receive her diploma in June when she was fully aware she hadn’t completed all of the credits to earn it, she admitted in a letter to the New York Post.

She explains that she rarely showed up for a Government class that was scheduled first period at 8am. Due to the early hour she only showed up a handful of times and never turned in any work. She even missed the final exam.

When inquiring about the final exam make up date she was told by her guidance counselor Mr. Ortiz that her teacher had already passed her – and then congratulated her.

...

high schools are failing to hold their students accountable and that four-year college are admitting students who may not have done the appropriate work to earn a spot there. “Most colleges in America are not selective, period,” said David Bloomfield, a professor of education leadership at Brooklyn College and the CUNY Graduate Center. “A lot of schools are looking to fill seats. They’re looking for warm bodies.”

...

students have reported that they cheat

The problem is these kids sign up for all the aid and loans to attend a college

They will never pay back the loans and it will get ugly

one of the stranger things i’ve read, writing a letter to complain that you were graduated even though you were too lazy to get to first class.

Bushbacker1 :" Passing them on to "schools of higher indoctrination"! "

Like Ithaca and Cornell ?
and then they wonder why people are passed because of their color of their skin or ethnicity
instead of by the quality of their character.

No, it won't get ugly

Any backlash will be rhetorical

The nation, short of revolution ... is gone

we may as well face that

If we DO get to an election and Trump DOES win and does what he says he will do .... The muzzies are in already, the mosques have been built, the babies are American, the cancer is here and matastasized ....

the illegal undocumented worker in the white mosque has already pardoned, and will pardon more before he leaves ... dangerous people that will disappear in a nanosecond when they get out

That is what the SAT tests are for, weeding out the fraudulent graduates.

Plus, there are tons of college degrees that cost alot but are worthless.

I see Biology and Earth Science majors with BS’s working at the gym as trainers.

That is NOT going to pay the student loans back.

Of course, the answer is for the Federal government to spend 1/2 trillion dollars to send everyone to college. Push the failure forward.

“A lot of schools are looking to fill seats. They’re looking for warm bodies.”

If they were wasting their own money, I wouldn't care. However, taxpayers are footing the bill for all the inflated charges and fees.

A college degree, even a technical degree, is now useless for getting a job. Each employer is likely to give you a test. The one I took was like an eighth grade final, though much of it was fractions and simple addition. When I asked my head hunter, he said the test regularly eliminated college graduates from the local historically black college. He thought that if they challenged it, the company would lose because, to his knowledge, the test had only so far eliminated black candidates. But, the company had cut its turnover by a huge amount.

Now companies are requiring professional certification for jobs like QA engineer or program management. These are private companies (ASQC and PMP) who administer tests and the continuing education scam. You must get their certification to be considered for a job and then spend a couple of thousand per year in education to maintain the certification. The certification is in addition to the, now useless, college degree.
