Thanks to the pervasive media obsession with reporting homicides and blaming gun ownership, the public believes, contrary to fact, that homicides and gun deaths are increasing. As a matter of fact, the number of privately owned guns has soared as gun homicides have fallen. Ryan McMaken of Mises Wire reports:
The Pew Research Center reported last week that the murder rate was cut nearly in half from 7 per 100,000 in 1993 to 3.6 per 100,000 in 2013. Over the same period, overall gun deaths (including accidents and suicides) have fallen by one-third from 15.2 to 10.6 per 100,000.

Oh, yeah. I forgot. Anybody know how widely used their 80 page “gun safety guide” is? They call it a “gun violence messaging guide”. Or, how to spread lies and misinformation to ignorant people. See below.

If you follow the FBI stats you see the crack epidemic in the late 80s and early 90s.
A gang-banger caught with a gun (or gun crime) before a judge - “Oh you poor boy, I’m releasing you on a signature bond. Next.”
Ordinary citizen who failed to register his gun before the same judge, “2 to 4 years, no parole. Next.”
Uh, register? What’s that? “Registration? We don’t need no steenkin’ registration.”
But then...they know their audience is a receptive group of dullards who respond well to such tactics.
Just perusing the “guide”, we see that it is obviously being used every time a shooting occurs. Basic premise is always, “play to the emotions”. That is exactly what they do. Toss out undocumented claims as if they are based in fact and the ignorant will buy it nearly every time.
