President Barack Obama returns Tuesday to his hometown, a city that has become a national symbol of gun violence, to speak with police leaders from around the country about the need for tougher firearm laws.
In his speech at the annual conference for the International Association of Chiefs of Police at McCormick Place, Obama is expected to push for national laws that make it harder to get around local restrictions by simply driving across a state border with less stringent gun laws.
Weaker guns laws in Indiana, for instance, have long been a problem for Chicago police, leading to a steady stream of illegal guns crossing the border and ending up on the city's West and South sides. A recent report issued by the city said 60 percent of the illegal guns recovered by Chicago police from 2009 to 2013 came from out of state, many from Indiana.
Obama's visit comes at a time when Chicago continues to struggle with gun violence. Even on the most recent late October weekend, shootings left 28 people wounded and six killed

Because criminals obey laws so well.
Now we need to ban cars because that was the most recent mass murder weapon.
obammy is totally demented ...
Crime is up you say? Mainly in Democrat-run cities and enclaves? Mainly black on black crime?
Think he’ll mention THOSE facts?
*Zzzzzzzzzzzz*
Chicago is already one of the toughest gun restrictive states! Sadly, guns raise the egos of the particular minority.
0bama just needs to motivate his sons to straighten up and fly right.
I love the Chicago Tribune’s canned articles.
Change gun to abortion or gay marriage and the article makes more sense.
Smoke and lies. He even fans the flames of the “#Black Lives” terrorists. As usual he fights the crisis that never was.
Who is asking him to take responsibility for the disaster he has created in the middle east? You know the one engulfing Europe and soon coming to our door. Perhaps Val Jar or Huma Abedin could answer those questions. They seem to be calling the shots for Barack and Hill.
This International Association of Chiefs of Police is composed of political suck-asses who made it to the top of larger city police departments by their various brownnosing, gophering, yes-manning and ballwashing skills.
These are the guys and gals and trans-queer types who will sell out local police departments to the UN, because they are too stupid to realize that once the deed is done they can be put up against the wall with everyone else that has suddenly outlived their usefulness.
Four-star clowns, with a bunch of meaningless ribbons on their chest. All they need is sunglasses and cigars to complete the ‘Convention of South American Dictators’ look.
0bama is the leader of #BLM
uhhh.......it’s already illegal to go to another state and buy a gun. Guns that are coming from other states were bought ILLEGALLY!!! This clown has no clue what he’s talking about.
These anti-gun morons are beyond ignorant. This fool goes to a city where they have very “strong” gun laws and also have a very high murder rate. Maybe the pinhead is there to “tweek” the laws.
Which one?
Honolulu
Mercer Island
Jakarta
Nairobi
Chicago
New York City
Cambridge
Are you sure that’s illegal? I know it’s illegal to make individual purchases without an FFL transfer, but buying from a licensed dealer?
OK then, repeal the 2nd amendment, this is their ultimate goal, make them attempt to do it. Things would get interesting quickly.
Federal law requires guns be purchased in your home state. You can buy out of state but must have the gun transferred to a dealer in your home state and pick it up there.
The big government statists want all private stopped and no handing down guns through the family.
I’ve got one response to the comments on this thread. Everyone needs to stop acting like “stricter gun laws” means anything other than a total gun ban. The logical, and sometimes very witty and comical, responses to articles like this one are past their time. The only way to accomplish the goals set forth by “stricter gun laws” it to ban private ownership of firearms, and even then the communist’s goals still wouldn’t be 100% reached. Anytime ANYONE mentions “stricter gun laws” to us, we should hammer them for supporting a complete ban on private ownership, which is what they are actually doing when you boil their argument down to its very essence.
IIRC, there was a recent court ruling that ended that prohibition.
