This conservative group wants to take Trump's Iowa slide national
Washington Examiner ^ | 10/26/15 | Gabby Morrongiello

Club for Growth declared "mission accomplished" last week as Republican front-runner Donald Trump slumped to second place in Iowa. Now, the fiscally conservative group is hatching a takedown in other early voting states.

Last month, a super PAC affiliated with the club launched a $1 million negative ad blitz against Trump in the Hawkeye State. The ads began airing 24 hours after the first GOP debate and highlighted a handful of policy positions Trump once took that many conservatives would consider antithetical to their interests.

"The polls have made it clear: Trump loses when voters know the truth about him," the group's president, David McIntosh, said Friday.

But while Trump is down by double digits in Iowa, he continues to lead the Republican field both nationally and in the two earliest primary states. Thus, the club is looking to expand their efforts.

"We're in the process of fundraising, but the plan has been to focus on the early states," Doug Sachtleben, who serves as communications director for the Club for Growth, told the Washington Examiner. "We'll look at South Carolina and what's being done there and perhaps Nevada."

"A lot of it is contingent on just raising the funds to launch ads, but we feel like the polls in the last week have confirmed that exposing Trump's positions bring him down," he added.

Sachtleben declined to say how much the club must fundraise and how long until anti-Trump attack ads appear in other states, instead he noted the group is engaged in "a steady outreach to other conservatives who share these concerns about Trump."

"It's been a daily process of reaching out and making those calls and showing potential donors, based on the polls, that a strategy that exposes Trump does work," he said.

He did say, however, that any new ads would likely tackle similar issues and follow the same format as those broadcasted in Iowa.

"We know property rights resonated and, likewise, him continuing to like government-run healthcare. Those are the issues where people see these aren't just past positions, they're things [Trump] still believes," he said.

Adding, "So we're looking at those kinds of issues where he still takes positions that are contrary to conservative philosophy in a big way."

Sachtleben said the club has also witnessed a rising number of other individual and group efforts to discount Trump, including a potential anti-Trump super PAC in South Carolina.

"There's more of a movement, whether it's partnering with us or doing something on their own. The lesson of Iowa is that exposing Trump's positions does bring him down," he said.

Still, Club for Growth is advocating for a concerted effort to bring the GOP's leading man down.

"We have some who are still watching to see if what's happening in Iowa will happen elsewhere," Sachtleben said.

"CFG action has a lot of experience watching campaigns and the ebbs and flows of this campaign are something we'll watch. But we're committed to ensuring, at this point, that the truth about Trump not being a conservative continues to get out," he added.

They should ask Trump to donate $1,000,000 again.

Hope Trump has a plan for these creeps. I do think their negative ads hurt and he can’t wait to put a stop to it.

I saw a poll here on FR that had Trump and Carson tied in Iowa, 27% for each.

I hope Trump runs his own ads and sticks it to these RINOs at the so-called “Club for Growth.”

Trump has not even begun to tap into his war chest yet. Timing is everything and Trump is playing the long game. Also, he’s got the “A” team on the ground in Iowa.

These are Trumps plans:

Oh he won’t run;

Oh he won’t send in his financial statement;

Oh he won’t last;

Oh he’s going to be dropping out;

Oh his numbers are going down;

Oh he is behind the pack;

OK, for over 100 days he has lead the Republican Candidates, he has filled more arenas, stadiums, fairs, than any of the other candidates, and he has a gun plan out, and a tax plan out, and he has a multi-billion dollar company he is running, and a book coming out...and is speaking to events at least twice a week...

Now you tell me, what are the other candidates doing? Oh yes, Ben Carson LEFT his campaign to do a ‘book tour’ but Trump hasn’t’t left HIS campaign for his ‘book tour’....Jeb is whining about his brother’s name; Rubio, a sitting Senator from Fla isn’t’t showing up for votes in the Senate; and on and on...what are they doing? I’ll tell you what Trump is doing:

This is the Trump Train:

He has told us about illegal immigration, and how he would handle it;

He has shown that if we had good immigration laws, we wouldn’t’t have the people that blew up the World Trade Center Buildings, the Pentagon...and has proved what needs to be done to enact the laws;

He has told us about how to get jobs back into America, and what he would do to do it;

He has a tax plan, and how it works;

He has a gun plan, and how he would work it;

He has told us obumacare is bad for the country, and what he would do about it;

He has told us about the Social Security going broke, and what he is going to do about it;

He has told us that the immigrants are being treated better than our vets, and what he would do to change it;

He has told us why he is financing his own campaign and why he is doing that;

He has told us that he wants Education back in the States, not in the federal government; and how bad common core is and why;

He has told us why he wants to shut down the EPA, and the reasons why;

He has told us why P.C. is so bad, and how it is taking away our expression of the freedoms we have;

So this is why my support goes to Trump, he makes deals, he runs multi billion dollar companies, and owns them, with someone as brilliant as this, I want THIS someone to put America on its feet again....

I dont believe in science of political partisan polling, however the latest poll has Trump and Carson tied... so if there is so much “science” in polling How come they are off by a whopping 8 points

There was a guy here a couple years ago that used to just fly off the handle anytime anybody questioned the science of political polling, actually there is a guy here now that went off his rocker when I said this the other day.

They actually believe that pollsters do not lie??? It`s not like it`s against the law to make up a phony poll and release it, nobody goes to jail, so quite laughable that so many accept the polls as Gospel.

Trump can produce ads and spend some money just like everyone else has to when the time comes.
He’s sitting fine, let them expose their plays first.
This is also a Cruz type strategy.
It’s time both Trump and Cruz go after Carson a bit.

In 2012, Obama and the Dems were firing negative ads at Romney early in primary season. CFG should focus on Hillary.

I think it’s better for them to ignore Iowa & Carson. Answering the screaming-heads will just encourage them.

I studied political science back when I was a youngster and needed a filler class in engineering school. In principle, polling can be agonizingly exact, but this basically amounts to having to stalk the pollees. In practice all kinds of sloppy things and biased methods and secret sauce is used... let’s see what the delegates say, they have the actual last word.
