Gun control advocates are launching a new regulatory push in California to impose first-in-the-nation instant background checks for ammunition sales, a move that comes as gun violence surfaces as a lightning rod issue in the 2016 presidential race.
Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democratic candidate for governor in 2018, joined with the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence in announcing the initiative last week.

It would require owners to turn in "large-capacity" magazines -- those holding 11 rounds or more -- and report when their weapons are stolen.

Aside from the ammo background checks, the California proposal also would require felons to relinquish weapons,

Forget it ... they’re wimps.
Better yet an earthquake followed by a tsunami to wash away the drek
Their trying a backdoor approach at getting rid of the 2nd Amendment.
Time to water the Tree of Liberty, indeed!
I just always want to point out that Richard Farley who shot up my old company, ESL, had a top secret clearance.
That’s better than any background check a company is going to do.
I don’t really think background checks are going to stop mass murders.
I think the bad guys (criminals) will probably figure out a way to get around the regulations.

How about the requirement for felons to turn in their guns when it is already illegal for felons to possess firearms?
Not that this is duplicative but, aren’t felons already barred from owning or even touching a gun?
You can't fix Stupid! Didn't anyone point out the little fact that Felons are Prohibited from possessing guns already?
LOL. With what water, their collective spit?
I thought that the SCOTUS rendered a decision on this sort of harassment years ago.
I hate to say it, but California is pretty much a lost cause. That said, it’s going to be interesting to see how this proposition fares at the polls. IF, and that’s a huge if, the forces of reason can get the information into the people’s hands that this is a criminally deceptive measure, it’s going to go down in flames.
If the only message is that delivered by the LA Times and the SF Chronicle, it’ll pass by a huge margin.
Curious to see how this plays out.
That, and things occur in peoples lives that causes them to snap or hit a breaking point. Usually a real or perceived great injustice.
5th Amendment, don’t have to because they would incriminate themselves in a crime.
It just goes to show you that another law won’t stop criminals from getting guns.
The Tree of Liberty is watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
The stupid state legislature passed a similar law a few years back and a Federal Judge in Fresno through the law out. Same iceholes same thing all over again. These tyrants never fargin give up. They con the peasants into voting for a law to go after criminals and in doing so make millions of law abiding citizens into new criminals. Well if they want to make us all criminals we may as well act the part and band together into a freedom loving constitutionalist brotherhood and hang the tyrants on the tree of liberty.
It seems so ghetto....
Exactly. In cities and states that have gun registration laws, felons are exempt because it would violate their right against self incrimination.
