Report: Paul Ryan Now Open To Speakership, But Not Bargaining With Hardliners
TPM ^ | 10/19/2015 | ByTierney Sneed

Posted on 10/19/2015 10:17:58 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

An anonymous ally of Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) told CBS News that the House Ways and Means chair is warming up to the idea of running for House speaker, but will not engage in any "horse trading" with the conservative hardliners who so far have roiled GOP leadership in recent months.

According to the report, Ryan will only run if he can gain the support of his caucus on his conservative record alone, which has been questioned by some on the hard right. CBS News' source said Ryan would consider meeting with the hardliners -- oft associated with the House Freedom Caucus -- but would not submit to any of the concessions the group has sought to extract from a future speaker.

"[H]e's not going to go to the Freedom Caucus and say, 'I'll do this and this'...otherwise you've sold yourself to them from the very beginning, and set yourself up for failure," the CBS News source said.

The House reconvenes Tuesday evening and Republicans will likely gather in a closed-door meeting Wednesday morning, where it is expected Ryan will be asked to address the caucus, according to the report.

Current House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has indicated he would like to step down at the end of the month after an Oct. 29 vote to replace him. However, the election schedule has been in flux since his presumed successor, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), dropped out of the speaker's race.

His self importance only rivals that of former congressman Cantor. He might want to keep that in mind.

Yup, willing to deal with Dhimmicrats, but not Conservatives.

That alone tells everyone whom he views as the true enemy.

The entire GOP are criminal liars who committed FRAUD
upon the electorate, lying about removing Tyranny,
lying about removing ObamaCARE, and in its place,
they voted to give the first Moslem pRes_ _ent even
more power to enable a nuclear Iran, a SECRET ObamaTRADE,
and even more treason.

The GOP is complicit and nearly every one should be removed
and indicted for Treason and racketeering.

Look closely FRiends, this is what voting has gotten us.

We can continue to vote till we’re blue in the face, the political reality will not change one iota. Vote for rats, get socialism. Vote for gopscum, get socialism. At the end of the day we still get socialism.

We would accomplish more by organizing our sock drawers than showing up for elections.

As far as I know the conservatives are just asking him to run congress the way congress ought to be run.

What's wrong with that? Unless he's being directed by the lobbyists to continue to run it the way Boehner did.

Well I’m not open to Paul Ryan being speaker ... or even being in the House at all. He should have been voted out at the earliest possible opportunity.

You make a good point: Ryan is bad but he’s just the symptom of a much bigger problem — it the party that’s rotten.

Ryan should move to OK and become a Democrat like his wife’s family.

This is going well...McConnell is still in power, Ryan may be the next speaker but doesn’t want to deal with conservatives, and Hilary is the odds-on favorite to be the next president.

I don’t want any more solicitations from the Heritage Foundation. Their effectiveness is underwhelming.

Ryan would be a disaster as speaker. Like Jeb and Rubio, he has no love or loyalty for this country.

Nope.

Ryan was played by the Democrats.

He was going to take money away from military retirees and give it to the Democrat Party so they could buy votes with it.

He’s an idiot.

I was just organizing my sock drawer a few minutes ago and gave up; the task is too complicated.
