Just one week after the federal Bureau of Prisons banned pork products from its 122 prisons, pork roast will return to the dinner lines, officials said Friday.
The reversal came just hours after Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, who represents the farm-strong state of Iowa, wrote to complain about the decision.
"The pork industry is responsible for 547,800 jobs, which creates $22.3 billion in personal incomes and contributes $39 billion to the gross domestic product," Grassley wrote to Bureau of Prisons Director Charles E. Samuels, Jr., reports The Washington Post, complaining that the "unprecedented" decision to take away pork could harm Americans employed in the industry.

Muslims deserve freedom in prison! freedom not to be offended by other people eating pork.....freedom to pray at specified times in a specified way for Allah to annihilate his jailers & the country/civilization of infidels which has imprisoned him........
I've been to buffets for breakfast where the patrons load up on bacon, sausage and ham. Once I saw a guy with a large dinner plate loaded with bacon. I mean a heaping pile. You can't tell me that once a person is incarcerated, his tastes change and he no longer likes pork products.
The muzzies thugs don’t have to eat pork in prison. If they stay out of prison, they don’t have to eat it.
Personally, I would serve them pork every meal. If they faded away, it wouldn’t break my heart.
Maybe a lot of prisoners convert to Islam while in jail so they stopped eating pork.
I was good until I saw the sliced up corn on the cob.... that is not how you are supposed to eat it... How are supposed to slather it in butter?
I think prisoners should only get bread and water for the duration of their stay, but since there are muslims making trouble in the pokey, I’d be willing to let taxpayers provide only pork and water for prisoners.
Momma always made me eat whatever was on the plate - and clean the plate - or get nothing.
It’s not about individual prisoners. Prisons accommodate individual religious dietary requirements already.
I think it’s sad that these criminals are fed better than our soldiers.
They’re stil not bringing back the bacon, ham and sausage - which they quietly removed two years ago.
Grassley is as corn-pone as they come, but he always gets the job done!
