Bill Clinton privately boasted to a close friend that he had “never had more money in his life” less than two months after leaving the White House in 2001, contradicting a claim by Hillary Clinton that the former first couple was “dead broke” and struggling financially at the time.
When they left the White House, they had millions in unpaid legal bills, due to Bill’s impeachment, the Paula Jones case, etc.
But they had millions in the bank because they each had received book advance payments prior to their leaving the White House.
You have to parse the language when any Clinton says anything. When Hillary says they were broke, she was thinking of the unpaid legal bills. When Bill says they had more money than ever, he was thinking of the book advances they received.
Bill and Shrillary purchased their Chappaqua home immediately after leaving the White House. How do you qualify for a $1.7 million mortgage if you're "flat broke?"
