This guy is a Syrian rebel guy. He also is publishing the names of the Russian pilots - probably to get their families killed.

Let’s hope so. They would do a much better job defending it against ISIS than Obama did.

Love the symbolism. I thought the castle had been destroyed though? I guess just vandalized.

Any muzzies going after Russian pilot families will be shipped back to ISIS C.O.D. inside a bomb.

Crusaders? Isn’t Putin worried it might be viewed as ‘racist’? (sarc)

Couple of guns could control the countryside for miles around it.

Which is why it was built there, in the first place.

Good use for that old pile—a base for new Crusaders.

This place? Krak des Chevaliers (French pronunciation: [kʁak de ʃəvaˈlje]) (Arabic: حصن الفرسان‎), also Crac des Chevaliers, is a Crusader castle in Syria and one of the most important preserved medieval castles in the world. The site was first inhabited in the 11th century by a settlement of Kurds; as a result it was known as Hisn al Akrad, meaning the "Castle of the Kurds". In 1142 it was given by Raymond II, Count of Tripoli, to the Knights Hospitaller. It remained in their possession until it fell in 1271. It became known as Crac de l'Ospital; the name Krak des Chevaliers was coined in the 19th century.

Sounds like a good idea if true. The russians can protect it and keep the barbarians from blowing it up.

Lucky it has survived this long.

There are no innocent citizens of Syria. If there are it is too complicated to find them.

Who’d ever think a former KGB officer would be seen as the Crusader savior of Christianity?
Bet that Valdmir likes that picture of him.

Why is it so difficult?

The Soviet Union fell over two decades ago, maybe its time to update your rhetoric.

It was struck at the tower....don't know further if hit again...this was done some time ago......Putin knows how significant this location is to Muslims so he's rubbing it in their faces if true he's setting up there.

It’s one of the last remnants of the short-lived Crusader (or French) Kingdom of Jerusalem. Tremendous symbolism.
