An armed man was shot dead by a patron after the suspect tried robbing the Waterbury, Connecticut, cafe and the patrons inside, police said.

Police are investigating the fatal incident as a homicide.

Police received reports of gunfire at Cafe Azzurri at 500 Bank Street at about 2:30 a.m. Responding officers found a man with at least one gunshot wound at the cafe and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that the would-be robber had come into the cafe wielding a gun and tried to steal from the business and the customers, police said.

However, a patron carrying a legally registered handgun confronted the suspect and fired his gun at least once, fatally shooting the man.

Police seized the patron's handgun and aren't releasing his name at this time. He is cooperating with authorities.

The cops should give him a reward for his effort and for ammo expended. Good shooting, Citizen. Civilization thanks you.

I love it when an armed robbery goes good.

His death is almost certainly a homicide, in this case justifiable, as opposed the other kind: criminal.

Well, they did say it was “legally registered,” and this is Connecticut....

RE: Wonder what the guns law are like in Conn.

After the Sandy Hook Massacre, December 14, 2012 ( which happened in a blissful town in Connecticut ), Connecticut passed gun laws in April 2013 that made it amongst the most restrictive in the country; some of which are being challenged by lawsuits in both the state and federal courts.

Prior to that, CT had quote reasonable gun laws. I know because I was a consultant for a data center in Trumbull, Ct and a lot of my colleagues owned guns and hunt for sport.

Article I,Section 15 of the Constitution of Connecticut states, “Every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself [or herself] and the state.”

"...Police are investigating the fatal incident as a homicide..."

"...Witnesses told police that the would-be robber had come into the cafe wielding a gun and tried to steal from the business and the customers, police said..."

Hmm. Given these two statements from the article, this is odd. I know you must gauge the circumstances very carefully, but this seems entirely justified if the robber was wielding a gun.

I hope the reporter just got this wrong, or this is a case of liberalism gone awry...again. But, if recent news stories have any truth, there seems to be a percentage of "black lives matter" idiots in that area, and if the robber was black, this is their way of trying to show those morons that the police are not "jumping to conclusions".

Stupid either way.

“...Police have not yet identified the victim....”
************************************************************

I don’t know why so-called “journalists” insist upon referring to these failed criminals as “victims”.

The sentence should have read something similar to “Police have not yet identified the dead armed robber.”.

They took his gun to run the ballistics. Have to make sure, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the bullet that killed the bad guy came from the good guy’s gun.

Even with a clear-cut suicide, they take the gun and run it. Dotting the Is and crossing the Ts.
