Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday was blocked from trying to link the Iran nuclear deal and a one-year ban on federal funding for Planned Parenthood to a government funding bill.
The Texas Republican, who is running for president, was blocked from offering his amendment during a voice vote. He tried to get a roll call vote but couldn't get the necessary support from his colleagues.

Yup.
So try and fail anyway. At least leave a legacy of doing the right thing despite the outcome.
Well, that inclines me to believe that Cruz didn’t really want this fight at this time.
Wise IMHO.
“Drew Brandewie @DBrandewie
Both Texas Alliance for Life & Texans for Life oppose shutting down gov over PP. “Better options exist for achieving success.” “
If Cruz or Trump is President, I predict that the GOPe and the Dems will unite to frustrate anything they try to do. The uniparty can’t let this kind of thing succeed. The only thing that would frustrate sabotage would be destruction of the RNC by the winner, and the threat of primary challenges against Republican backsliders.
They’re Democrats in every way except for the letter after their names...which is meaningless.
There are no secrets among Congressman. Any attempt at surprise moves, brilliant plots, etc., has already been pre-empted by Team 0dungo. Has anyone noticed how virtually NOTHING good has happened in favor of the Republicans in the last 6 plus years? You think it's all just coincidence?
Along with the House, we definitely have some housecleaning to do in the senate
We knew it would be this way.
Bonehead is a traitor.
And there you go
There is a bit of concern that as smart and principled as Cruz is, as a president can he get more done than he has accomplished as a senator?
Talk is talk
Boehner tried to tell him. I am simply reminded of the movie ‘Amazing Grace’. William Wilberforce stayed with it for a long time.
They will certainly try, but as Obama has shown, a determined President can do a lot with a fully functional pen and phone.
You can easily map the bias in a state-controlled-media reporter by where he uses the word "tries." In the language of J-school orthodoxy, you use "tried" to bestow futility or loser-ness on the action of someone of whom you disapprove. For instance, someone I knew scared off two armed muggers who were trying to rob a boy of his expensive roller skates. As the muggers were fleeing, they shot my (unarmed) friend and he died at the scene. He was clearly a hero. He defended not just a young boy he didn't know, but an entire neighborhood and city. If every man acted as he did, that city and the world would be better, safer, and frankly more holy.
But a member of the state-controlled media at the time described this hero as having "died trying to break up a mugging." No, actually, he succeeded in breaking up the mugging. He just didn't survive the scene of his heroism. I suspect he is succeeding rather well in the next world. That's the thing about heroism. If we care about our souls, we can't avoid the necessity, sometime, somehow, of acting heroically, in ways that may be seen or unseen.
Reporters believe it's morally wrong to resist muggers, partly because most of that city's muggers are black, and therefore shouldn't be thwarted in any waybut mostly because such reporters are afraid to resist bad guys themselves, and heroic sacrifice makes them feel like pencil-necked geeks. (Which they are.)
Cruz was blocked from linking "the Iran nuclear" and so on. He wasn't "blocked from trying." He did try. He just didn't succeedyet. There's a lot that's yet to come from Cruz, and that's what the state-controlled media fears. They are whistling past the graveyard of their entire world.
Take to the pitch forks in DC people, let's let the vermin living large on our dime, know it's not whether or not they 'dis Ted Cruz, it's OUR EYES they're sticking their fingers in!!!
I guess Mike Lee is the only one who stood with Cruz. Where was Misters Paul and Rubio on this vote? You know - those 2 solid conservative voices.
This is more evidence that the GOP is hopelessly corrupt and must cease to be a political power.
A new political party needs to be started to make the GO go the way of the Whigs in the 1850s.
It’s bad enough the Dems vote in lockstep to fund PP, but hy do we have to take the GOP being too cowardly to fight for what the clear majority of Americans want?
We have lost three years already.
We cannot waste three more, hoping the GOP comes around.
