...someone with enough credibility to beat McCarthy is waiting in the wings and seems to be taking the temperature of the conference...It's not clear whether this is Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) or not.

Why would he even be a shoo-in in the first place? Is this because he is next most senior there? Seniority isn’t a requirement for the job. If he ever had anything to do with Boehner with regard to helping him, then I’d say hell no.

If McCarthy is going to end up with the speakership after this long and protracted battle, he is going to need to make serious concessions to the conservative side of the House GOP conference. We don't need a speaker that is going to give us concessions. We need someone who is already in our corner.
