There is going to be a race for Speaker of the House, Breitbart News has learned, and current House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) will not be a shoo-in to replace outgoing Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH).
While McCarthy is still the odds-on favorite to win, he is likely to face a serious and credible challenge from a conservative who can beat him, Breitbart News has learned. If McCarthy is going to end up with the speakership after this long and protracted battle, he is going to need to make serious concessions to the conservative side of the House GOP conference. But as conservatives mobilize and organize, they have proven now that they have the power to deny anyone the speakershipand could blow up McCarthys move if he doesnt cooperate with them and shift the power to someone more palatable.
....
Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL), a conservative who previously challenged Boehner, has announced he is running against McCarthy. But another conservative with even more juice in the GOP conferencesomeone with enough credibility to beat McCarthyis waiting in the wings and seems to be taking the temperature of the conference to see if Republicans will coalesce behind an entirely fresh, new leadership team.

Gomert!! Gomert!!
Marsha is HISTORY!! She tried to deflecy baby killing into a stupid “reconciliation” bill She was exposed as a RINO!!
I don't see how that works. Don't you need a majority "to deny anyone the Speakership"? And, if you have a majority, why don't you "have the numbers to elect a full-blown conservative to the Speakership"?
Then, who do you like for Speaker?
That kind of fatalism is killing conservatism. Muslim’s are fatalists. Have hope and win, even if it’s incrementally. We’re winning, stop whining.
Rubio was speaker of the House in FL. Are there not other incumbents who know how to lead in a legislative branch?
What you describe is a long term mindset. In Jan ‘92 R Minority Leader Bob Michels said there was no way the Republicans would ever be in the majority and therefore we should support Al-the-pal-Dixon Democrat because he would trade pork-barrel favors with the R establishment.
The anti-establishment/good government types were so enraged that we cross-over and voted for Mosley-Braun to be against Bob Michels. So the weak Dem beat Michel’s guy who was selected to take a dive. 6 years later we were able to replace her with anti-establishment Peter Fitzgerald.
But when Fitzgerald was deciding whether to go for a 2d term, the Hasterts crooks made it very plain they would spend unlimited money to defeat him...with the R establishment supporting Obama in Nov even if they couldn’t beat him in the primary.
So Peter didn’t run again and we were back to square one.
Not Gowdy. He missed the plane.
Though I would have never thought Boehner would resign, I surely don’t think anyone but McCarthy will replace him.
