Roman Catholicism [free audio download]
Ligonier ^ | RC Sproul

Posted on 09/23/2015 8:56:25 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

The Roman Catholic Church claims to be the one, true church established by Jesus Christ. The Reformers of the sixteenth century rejected this claim, pointing to numerous conflicts between Scripture and Roman Catholic doctrine and practice. What are the differences that divide Roman Catholics and Protestants? Are they important? In this series, R.C. Sproul carefully and respectfully looks at the doctrines that are at the heart of the Catholic-Protestant divide.

Shouldn’t this thread be in the religion forum?

That would explain why they burned people alive at the stake for 1800 years for owning a bible!

The printing press with movable type was not invented until the mid 1400's. Prior to that they were hand copied. Depending on how ornately they had been done they might cost from 1-3 years salary of the "average" person. So please tell me who was burned at the stake for "owning" a Bible.

Sounds like Catholic bashing, using the excuse of the Pope’s visit to express one’s disdain for the Catholic church.

Something that happened, or didn’t happen, “1800” years ago can not be used to condemn an organization TODAY.

Just a slight bit of hyperbole in this case. They were merciful and strangulated him before burning him. Plus it wasn't the Catholics in this case. Although if you care to look at church history, both P and C, they are equally disgusting.

Despite the revisionist history Tyndale was not burned at the stake for "owning" a Bible, he was actually burned for writing his own Bible was teaching heresy due to an intentional poor or mistranslation. He refused to recant despite being offered numerous opportunities.

As yourself this: If his version of the Bible was so outstanding why didn't anyone else choose to print it after the reformation?

In 1611 the 54 scholars who produced the King James Bible drew significantly from Tyndale, as well as from translations that descended from his. One estimate suggests the New Testament in the King James Version is 83% Tyndale's and the Old Testament 76%.[7] With his translation of the Bible the first to be printed in English, and a model for subsequent English translations, in 2002, Tyndale was placed at number 26 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons.[8][9

And the 17% and 24% percent they did not use were the parts that were heretical. Thank you for proving my point.

Well, get it and see for yourself. RC doesn’t agree with the Pope, but he is respectful of the institution.

His talks are fairly brief, a little more than 22 minutes, IIRC.
