He didnt plan to say it. But two hours into the second Republican presidential debate, Jeb Bush took a firm stand.
He kept us safe, he said.
The quick and simple defense of his brother, former president George W. Bush, earned one of the loudest rounds of applause of the night. Aides said it was an impromptu decision spurred by an attack from Donald Trump, the GOP front-runner.
But those four words refocused a campaign in desperate need of a moment, and signaled the extent to which Jeb Bush has become comfortable even eager to highlight rather than play down his family ties.
Those words also launched a broader debate about George W. Bushs legacy and whether the former president kept the nation safe during his eight years in office, which included the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the launch of a war in Iraq still reverberating a dozen years later.

More than he is willing to embrace this country versus Mexico.
More to the point, is he yet ready to stand down?
He’s going to lose, big. Big.
He’s running on (all) the wrong things. Every single one.
Gotta love how the political press plays this out as some type of family soap opera. Jeb should talk about George Bush just like any other candidate should talk about George Bush, or like any voter talks about George Bush. He was a mixed bag. On some issues, he was very good. On some issues — spending in particular — he was horrible. Jeb needs to name his brother’s policies that he agreed with and those he disagreed with. But the press simply turns it into the “Is Jeb running from the Bush name? Will Jeb embrace his brother?” soap opera. They are so shallow its ridiculous.
That’s why I think this guy has mental issues.
His firmest position is on illegal immigration.
His position is 100% contrary to the voting public.
Yet he stands firm, to even pour salt into this wound by Speaking Spanish.
No one in their right mind could expect to be elected by purposely going against the desires of the voter.
Now the GOPe go 100% against the desires of the voter, but AFTER THEY ARE ELECTED. This just makes them totally dishonest, not mental cases.
Now his name is weed. Tumble weed bush.
Bill Clinton had, what, 2 or 3 opportunities to capture bin Laden, yet refused. Also, he basically stood by as we suffered numerous terror attacks at home and abroad, for one thing, treating the first terror attack on the WTC as a criminal action, as opposed to act of war. In addition, every single major democrat stood up on the floor to defend going to war to remove dictator Saddam Huessin, based on the same exact intel Bush had. That is, all except Barack Hussein Obama, who, despite what seemed like solid evidence that Saddam had WMDs and would use them against us and/or our allies, was opposed to removing him. Recall the Russians supported the Saddam regime.
“Hes running on (all) the wrong things. Every single one.”
In addition to his instinct for error he is also an absolute dud.
He did inspire me to change my tagline however.
I remember when Obama refused to use his middle name on the campaign trail....
Go for it. Use the phrase “new world order” just like your daddy.
Let him go embrace some messycans in mexico. I hope the stupid SOB quits soon so I don’t have to listen (or read about) him speaking spanish anymore.
He has little choice since most voters associate him with his last name.
His Jeb! sign may have distanced him from Bush, but it didn’t distance the association by voters.
Now Jeb! is associted with the label, Tippie-toes.
[Asked frequently by voters about his aging father, Jeb Bush goes all in. My dad is the great man alive in my mind, he said in May. I have to admit, Im not particularly objective about the subject, so if someone wants to argue with me Ill take you outside and get beat up.]
First he talked like his father is dead and then says if he goes outside he’ll get his a$$ kicked.
He kept us safe,
Kinda, but it took Sept. 11, 2001 to get him to do it.
What will it take to make Jeb look like he’s doing something?
All Bush did was declare a war that eventually ended in failure
but the loss of our freedoms that happened in the aftermath
is still with us.
He may have looked like he was keeping us safe but in
reality he made us even more vulnerable to our own
government, and the Obama.
That’s Frahnk In Steen...
Exactly!
