Thomas Sowell proves himself, again, to be brilliant and rational. What a shame that we are stuck with an ignorant “pope” who doesn’t even understand the essential connection between private property and freedom, which Adam Smith and Hayek and Milton Friedman so brilliantly explained so a 10 year old could understand it. Free Will is being able to make a CHOICE——and to be human-—people MUST have choice....but not in a socialist/Marxist/satanic system where you have ONE way to “think”.
I have always been amazed at how brilliant the minds were in most encyclicals of the past popes——until this pope emerged very suspiciously. Hmmmmmmm. It is true about how socialism destroyed Argentina and created such dire poverty in the county—both spiritually and economically.
Shame on the Catholic Church for allowing such evil ideology to take over the brilliant works of St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas. St. Pius the X warned of this creeping evil ideology which was destroying the Church from within in Pascendi in 1907 or so. Sowell is well-informed and correct, as usual.
We need to be aware of the wolf in sheep clothing——we will know them by their “fruits”. (LOL) Truth does set us Free!!!!! Seeking Truth is what Thomas Sowell has been all about——much more than this “pope” evidently, and that is the mission of the CATHOLIC CHURCH —to promote TRUTH (LOL). (All I hear from the Vatican now is lies and misinformation-—blurring the Truth, which is pure satanism).
(PS I am a Catholic and raised in Catholic schools. I studied Latin and learned the Socratic Method and Aristotelian Logic which obsessed Aquinas who was an Aristotelian. (Aristotle is the Father of Logic and is why Western Civ had the Age of Reason-— which this pope has ejected totally for Eastern tribalism and many “truths” and contradictions. (Just pure evil and satanism to reject Reason since the Mind is what elevated man above animal and made us in the image of God)).
Do you notice— this pope is trying to eject Reason (all the ideology which created the Age of Reason and US Constitution), which only makes us into godless animals-—just like the socialist, Marxists want so they can herd, control and cull us.
You don’t.
This bas been addressed in Catholic theology early on by St. Thomas Aquinas and lately by Pope John Paul II.

Alphonse was on a roll for awhile.
I miss John Paul.
By every statement he makes, Pope Francis reveals himself to be an economic and historical ignoramus who will end up doing far more harm than good.
Liberal economics is also a term used many times in the past for free market economics. Of course, many liberals hate liberal economics. Strange huh?
Long before those revolutions the church closely aligned itself with royalty. Back in 800AD it was the church who handled the coronation of Charlemagne. That alignment continued until the French Revolution. And you’re right, it was vastly preferable.
Whose views are closer to Jesus, Sowell or the Pope?
I’m thinking the Left has had their Pope throughout the majority of my life (60 years) with only the possible exception of John Paul II, nee Karol Wojtyla of Poland.
“I doubt that the left will be too happy with his FIRM stand against abortion and euthanasia...and FOR sexual chastity and marriage between one man and one woman.”
In response to the above post, I say do not count on this Pope mentioning, much less condemning, any of the above. In this Catholic’s opinion, this Pope is a fraud as is his humbleness act. He is the product of a country that has had a dysfunctional leftist government for over 100 years, as well as the product of many years of Jesuit false-think.
Jesuits(especially professors) are by and large, marxists/communists. They have backed every marxist dictator of the last 50 years.
Like all hard lefties, Francis believes in shared suffering and misery. He would prefer to see an entire roomful of 100 people starving to death than a roomful of 99 satisfied people and one person starving to death.
I refuse to use the term capitalism to describe my economic philosophy. The specifics of the Bishops' Pastoral Letter reflect far more of the secular Enlightenment of the 18th century than of Catholic traditions. Archbishop Weakland admitted that such an Enlightenment figure as Thomas Paine "is now coming back through a strange channel.Notwithstanding that, I find it extremely useful to quote Paine:Strange indeed. Paine rejected the teachings of "any church that I know of," including "the Roman church." He said: "My own mind is my own church." Nor was Paine unusual among the leading figures of the 18th century Enlightenment.
SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, the latter NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil - Thomas Paine, Common Sense (1776)
Capitalism is a term invented by Marx to describe the exploitative economic growth in the early stages of the Industrial Revolution.
It ceased to exist after Poor Laws were passed in the late 1840s.
Free enterprise is not an ideology. It is the opposite of an ideology.
Thomas Paine, in the quote above, frees us to use the word which truly describes the market. The word we seek - the word which liberals have stolen from us - is society.
He is systematically replacing Reason with (false) Mercy.
I do to. He was the last real Pope we had. Now we’ve got a leftwing, extremist politician from Argentina.
Sedevacantist and happy!
I wouldn’t call this Pope’s sanction of “catholic divorce” as standing firm for marriage between one man and one woman.
