Sorry, but that level of bad sportsmanship deserves something more than a few lectures and missed games. We aren’t talking about someone who simply shouted some expletives on the field.
I can deal with a 15 yard penalty and 1 game suspension.

My answer would be the same if it happened to my kid. Much of my consideration comes from the fact the kid wasn’t seriously injured and that it happened on a sports field. Traditionally, sports has always been self-monitored and society has generally been inclined to let teams handle it.
If the kid had been knocked out or became incoherent or had to be carried out on a stretcher my answer would be different.

No. It I far from hyperbole. There are those here who are saying the kid should be sent up the river for years on end for what he had done. That’s not far from saying he should have gotten the death penalty.

Ten stitches is hardly a smash. It was a stupid act, but no serious injuries. It’s something that should be agreed upon by both teams.

Really? When my son played competitive league soccer he got ejected from the game and sat a two-game suspension for mouthing off to a referee. Even at that, it took a couple of go-arounds before he finally got the point, that there was no percentage in mouthing off to a referee.
A one-game suspension in this case is the same as telling the kid that his behavior is acceptable. You'll do him no favors that way, and you'll be setting him up for something worse in the future. Not to mention the effect it will have on the mindsets of all the other players and their coaches. These athletes tend to be very brash and overly self-confident, and most have repeatedly had rules bent and broken in order to keep them on the playing field. It's a dangerous precedent.

Go back and look at the previous exchange. I said the kid committed felonious assault. When someone pulls off an opponents helmet and strikes them with it and causes and injury requiring ten stitches they require a harsh response.
I suggested someone who supported the thug deserved similar treatment and they challenged me. I said I’d gladly accept the same punishment they recommended for the original miscreant.
Now you know the rest of the story.
