The ‘Donald Trump Show,’ courtesy of Boehner and McConnell
The Hill ^ | September 10, 2015 | By former Rep. David McIntosh (R-Ind.)

The Donald Trump Show should be a wake-up call to establishment Republicans in Washington. Let’s face it – at its core the Trump phenomenon is an expression of deep anger and frustration at Washington’s lack of leadership.

Less than a year ago, conservatives, libertarians, and independents gave Republicans a majority in the Senate and their largest House majority in more than 80 years. They trusted Republicans who campaigned on the promise that a Republican majority would at least put up roadblocks to the Obama agenda.

Voters fully expected this Congress to take real steps to rein in spending with a transparent appropriations process, and to preserve the modest spending caps established under sequestration. They believed Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) a year ago when he said tax reform was “in the realm of doable.” Yet today, we’ve not only seen none of the above - it’s actually gotten worse. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said recently that tax reform will have to wait until at least 2017. Rather than cut spending, this Republican Congress has cut deals with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to try to create $9 billion in new mandatory spending, and voted for a Medicare bill that adds more than $100 billion to the deficit over the coming years. Boehner still wants to resuscitate the Export-Import Bank, an example of the worst of government cronyism and the first federal agency to be put out of business in years. And, both McConnell’s Senate and Boehner’s House are expected to bust through established spending limits this fall with a massive spending bill that will likely be passed with a lot of Democrat votes, over the objections of many fiscal conservatives in both chambers.

I'm still waiting for Trump to go after Boehner and McConnell. That's a Trump Show I could watch.

“They trusted Republicans”

OK serious question. How much of ones integrity does one have to throw away and how much of ones brain does one have to shut down to ‘trust’ two men that openly campaigned on working with a muslim terrorist?

No one ‘trusted’ them. They put ‘winning’ over everything and didn’t give a damn WHAT they won because the stupidly convinced themselves ‘it was a lesser evil’ and the ‘Dem was worse’.

Well obviously since they caved fully on EVERY thing obama wanted since the election, the dem is documented to not be worse.

It’s about time these writers address the truth instead of perpetuating the lie.

It not lack of leadership, it’s outright betrayal.
The citizens have been screaming for years to stop the illegal alien inundation.
The politicians know they are thwarting the will of the people.

The people now know that the illegal alien inudation is not incompetence it is treason.

I suggest that you read past the excerpt. This article may be anti-Boehner/McConnell, but it’s in no way pro-Trump.

I really don’t want the Democrats in the White House for another 4-8 years.

Exactly right. We voters in the 7th-VA showed the rest of the country how its done. Term limits are already in the hands of the voter. Entrenched, well-funded incumbents CAN be taken down with little money.
The Weasel Eric Can’tor/won’t had millions and it did not save him because we knew he was about to betray us on amnesty. That was supposed to have happened after he won his primary.

There are many weasels in Congress that need to be Cantorized.

I don’t think a sane man does.

Are you saying that Republicans with a 100% capitulation rate are in some way better? If so, how so? And please don’t mention ‘feet to the fire or ‘they might’ because no one did/will and no they won’t as history proved.

“I’m still waiting for Trump to go after Boehner and McConnell. That’s a Trump Show I could watch.”

He talks about our leaders being “stupid.” I’m sure he includes these two, as well as many unnamed and deserving others.

However, he will probably not call them out by name as, if elected, he would have to get their cooperation.

God know these men are not “leaders” in the true sense of the word. But any Republican president is going to have to make the best of a bad bunch of scumbags.

Trump has been using the word "incompetence" a lot. I think he needs to understand that we are past that point. Boehner and McConnell and the others are competently helping the destruction of our country.

“However, he will probably not call them out by name as, if elected, he would have to get their cooperation.”

Because people will continue to be ‘pragmatic’ and thus ensure that the gruesome twosome are still in power to oppose him.

Correct!

It's another "hand-wringing" column, pining for the candidacies of those "true conservatives" to overtake Trump.

My fear is that not only will President trump not get their cooperation, what he will get is impeached and convicted at the first possible opportunity.

Note that impeachment is off the table for Obama, he can do anything he wants, but it will be on the table for Trump on Day One. The Democrats will unite with their familiars, the GOP snakes, and get it done.

These people do not want Trump in their swimming pool.

And should such a thing happen, I wonder what the reaction of the people who elected him will be...

McConnell was just re-elected in 2014. **Groan**

I think Boehner has to run next year but I could be wrong.

I think you may be right.

If elected, the Democrats will not roll over, unlike the feckless Republicans have with Obama in a horrible display of reverse racism.

Reelected AFTER campaigning on working WITH Obama. And look how many said ‘No matter what”. They got ‘what” Thus it is of no matter to them to do so again.

Words mean things whether a lib says so or not.

Ditto! I can’t believe McConnell is getting such a pass. Boehner is finally treading water for his life, but McConnell needs to be attacked by all conservatives!
