Battleground Tracker: Trump leads GOP field in IA, NH, SC (IA Trump +4, NH Trump +28, SC Trump +15)
CBS News ^

Posted on 09/13/2015 8:33:20 AM PDT by springwater13

Showing no signs of a slowdown heading into the fall, Donald Trump leads the Republican Presidential field in each of the early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Trump's lead in New Hampshire is especially large and he's up double-digits in South Carolina. In Iowa, it's become a two-man field for the moment, as Dr. Ben Carson is closer to Trump than anyone in any state, and together the two political newcomers have distanced themselves from the rest of the pack.

That’s OK—President Romney’s crack team of political operatives is gearing-up to take Trump out.

Oh, wait . . .

Front-runner Donald Trump’s popularity WRT illegal immigration has created problems for his GOP running mates---sinking most of them into ignominious single-digit territory.

But the issue of trade is Trump's winning card. Trump has been consistent in saying US trade deals are ruining our nation.

FOR STARTERS PONDER THIS Obama calls the TPP deal "central" to his second-term legacy, as well as to his "foreign policy" and "economic" agendas.

That's why Trump's trade stance is a winning issue.

Trump can point out that virtually all his Republican opponents including Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz, and Sen Marco Rubio, as well as Republican Congressional leaders, all support TPP.

Republican candidates support for TPP stinks to high heaven of the GOPe.

"PLAY THE TRUMP CARD DONALD:" These Republicans are all supporting Obama's "legacy".

Opposition to Trump is going to come from all around, and it’s going to get viscious. Just how well Trump navigates this minefield will be the test of his metal. If he prevails—and I think he will, though it probably depends most upon his resolve—it will prove him truly heroic. Success will be proof of greatness. If he has it, it will be proven in little more than a year.

Yes, he's the GOP's worst nightmare--in fact, the worst nightmare of all those who have surrendered to the evil and the delusions of Western decadence.

They will be devastated by the shattering of their delusions by truth and the cleansing of their decay by ascendancy.

If Trump is truly heroic and truly a man of greatness, we will see them recoil in horror as their mediocrity is revealed to history and all the world--and especially to themselves.

Small men with small minds will be exposed for what they are. They will fight it with everything they've got--the fools and the scoundrels.

Decent and honest people will rejoice.

This trade deal is Trump’s arena....

Now he is going to show us how stupid these people are when they are making deals, compared to how he makes deals...

We are getting ready for one heck of a ride folks!!!

I might add, that it will take his supporters standing strong against the onslaught and not get sidetracked by their vicious attacks which are sure to come.

Wow - 40% in NH and Carson overtakes Kasich - knocking him to 3rd place. I just don’t get the appeal of Carson at all, and especially since we all know his true beliefs on issues. Hopefully, these will be exposed soon.

Carson has been discovered by evangelicals and they like him. He’s probably hurting Cruz more than Trump is at this point.

Just because Trump navigates or does not navigate the coming
attacks does not mean the issues he has raised will disappear.

I posted this a few days ago regarding Carsons poll numbers:

Here are Carson’s poll numbers over the last month or so (pulled from CNN, RealClear Politics articles from the date ranges noted. You can Google the results yourself if you want)

In the days before the August debate Carson was at 7%.
Rose to 11% immediately after the debate (August 10-15)
Stayed at 11% the following week (August 16-21)
12% the following week (August 23-28)
18% (!) the following week (August 30-Sep 4)
19% (!) the following week (Sep 6th - Sep 11th)

The immediate, post-debate bump makes sense. General consensus was that he had a solid debate performance. He went up a few points and maintained those gains for a couple of weeks (August 10-28).

But that does not explain what happened at the end of August where Carson inexplicably gained 6-7% in the polls (August 30- September 11). Where did this second gain come from? Think about what things happen that precede a jump in popularity. In that time period, did he:

Release a position paper that was well-received?
Make a well-covered, well-received speech?
Take a strong stand on some topic which was picked up by the media?

He did none of these things. He didn’t do anything that we normally tie back to gains in the polls. It’d be more logical if his support stayed steady or waned in those weeks.

I think his results are being fixed. I honestly believe they are being propped up by the GOPe in hopes of taking some of the “I hate the GOP” votes away from Trump in hopes that enough of Trump’s dominance would slip to allow Jeb Bush to re-emerge from the pack. In short, with respect to Carson’s poll numbers, I think we’re being played.

Excuse me while I go get my tinfoil hat.

This isn’t a bad hypothetical, and you could be right on the money. No one I talk to knows who he is or cares what he has to say. He had a great closing line in the last debate, but is that what we vote on for a president? I think he was only asked one or two questions in that entire debate - not enough to really tell us where he stood on the issues. Now, we are finding out and wow - they aren’t good.

It already is sticky.
And will get downright mean and vicious as the campaign progresses.
Mr. Trump has the optimistic, assertive character and beliefs that can pull off a win.
The more one reads about the background of Mr. Trump, the better he looks.
