But he also said the “make government smaller” part as a prelude to cutting taxes to help the economy. This is a NYC and tourist audience he was addressing, so they may not be primed to applaud smaller government as a goal, but he also said it as part of a longer explanation.
I actually was thrilled with his response, since that’s what he led with and he smartly immediately tied it to the question asked, which is lower taxes, which would lead to more jobs.
That was the meat of the skit IMO.

It wouldn’t be impossible in principle, but it would require getting them to see the issue from a viewpoint of what can be gained by giving up the bigger government.

of course.. the audience were not at a Trump rally they were there to laugh and have a good time.. they aren’t going to cheer and clap at every serious statement any politician makes on those shows even if they 100% agree with them.. I wouldn’t
I remember a time when FReepers criticized candidates for going on these shows.
Just more hypocrisy on display.
