AP: Trump has ‘Tonight Show’ Audience ‘Eating Out of His Hand’

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump clarified, sort of, a long-standing question about his personality during an appearance on Friday’s “Tonight Show.”

Host Jimmy Fallon asked him, playfully, if the billionaire developer and GOP presidential front-runner has ever apologized for anything.

“I fully think apologizing is a great thing,” the famously self-assured Trump replied before winning the studio audience’s applause by adding: “But you have to be WRONG. … I will absolutely apologize sometime in the hopefully distant future if I’m ever wrong.”

That’s how it went, with both Fallon and the audience eating out of his hand.

In what passed as one of the segment’s more serious moments, Fallon asked what Trump was doing on the campaign trail that his Republicans aren’t to win support from voters.

“I think they want our country to be respected again,” Trump said. “I think they feel that if I’m president, I will do some great things for our country, and we’re gonna be respected again…. There’s a movement going on, and it’s amazing to watch.”

Trump’s interview session with Fallon was remarkably similar to a comedy sketch that had Fallon impersonating Trump, complete with orange wig, as they faced one another on opposite sides of a picture frame, as if one of them were the other’s mirror image.

As the interview drew to a close, Fallon proposed a new campaign song for Trump to consider. Pressing a key on his MacBook, he brought to life a pounding anthem by DJ Khaled called “All I Do Is Win.”

“What do you think?” asked Fallon.

“Honestly,” Trump beamed, “it happens to be 100 percent true.”.................Well well...

I saw it last night. First time I’ve turned on that show since Fallon took over.

To be honest there were some in the audience laughing at him when he said he was right about what he’d said on immigration.

Or maybe it should have been “Oh Lord, It’s Hard To Be Humble” :-)

Good fortune has favored him to this point and it would be blind to say otherwise.

But he hasn’t yet met the crisis that would force him to look at where his heart is and improve the situation.

Would I want to be in his spot... well it’s preferable to some other spots, but it’s still not the best spot. “Fate” (to use the term for a moment) can use him and then chuck him off stage the moment it’s done.

It was also clear that Fallon did not want to give any impression he supported Trump.

Just win baby win.

Winning is a habit.

Winning isn’t everything it’s the only thing.

There’s no room for second place.

He can’t because he will be having other candidates on the show. He has to give the impression that he is neutral, but, probably supports the Hildebeast.

Christ formally brought us the lose-to-win paradox.

Since nobody is perfect, to use that is a necessity to make any kind of spiritual progress.

When our eyes are full of politics sometimes we can forget that reality is about more than that, much more, and if it is not attended to even the politics will stumble and fall.

Some of his carryings on could be seen to be a joke.

But he can’t be all joke all the time. There needs to be a deeper side.

And you'd know this because? Realize that a lot of what Trump does is schtick. Privately things may be very different.

The Donald hit a home run with this appearance.

I stayed up past my usual bed time to watch Trump on Fallon’s show. Trump looked at ease and carried himself very well. He has a stage presence like few other people can claim.

Like The Fonz from “Happy Days”, The Donald is simply never WRONG.

Except in one famous episode (Ralph Malf has just joined the Marines), where the best The Fonz could struggle out in a mutter was, “I was WRNNNNN!”

I believe shortly thereafter The Fonz also famously “jumped the shark” (literally) and the series was assigned to the dusty bins of history.

True but it showed he has a sense of humor. Im not going to read into it too much. Except political junkies like most here I think the average viewer enjoyed seeing him...time will tell.

Did you notice during the Sketch when he said something like “ Make government smaller.” There was NO noise, applause, laughter or even a fart?

Trump’s brought up deeper issues for America than the usual glib pols ever actually face up to, let alone address.

I’ve considered this too, there may be a private Donald that is hiding behind the riches, one that is involved in a significant struggle.

I have to remember that some of the comments he has made about the bible and faith weren’t made, say, to Billy Graham, but to news reporters that he is as wary of as a mongoose is a snake. It may not be possible to get a reliable reading that way. Nonetheless the spirit of God’s house is such that sooner or later there will, not might, be a testimony before men if it’s real. We’ll see. I pray for Donald Trump and hope to see God’s work expressed in him. Only Trump can permit it, or else react against it to the very end. God won’t force his will.

Yeah. In the passage where he was kind of making a joke about how unreal life today is, he harkened back to something 15 years ago, maybe Trump on SNL, and said who’d’ve ever believed back then that I’d be the Tonight show host and you’d be frontrunner for President.

But he didn’t say frontrunner for President. He kind stumbled on it and awkwardly put in, for the Republican party.

He clearly did not want to say he was frontrunner for the race in general, despite it being true and despite it making the joke work better.

Can’t tick off Hillary.

He’s marching to a different drummer than the pols. Whether that is a divine drummer, remains to pan out. Of course I hope it is, see some signs that it might be, and have long said so.
