Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson knocked rival Donald Trump's immigration plan on Tuesday, saying that deporting the country's undocumented immigrants "sounds really cool" but would be far too costly and complicated.
"It sounds really cool, you know, 'Let's just round them all up and send them back,'" Carson said. "People who say that have no idea what that would entail in terms of our legal system, the costs - forget about it. Plus, where you gonna send them? It's just a double whammy."
Carson has been gaining on Trump, the GOP frontrunner, in recent polls. An NBC/Marist poll released Sunday found Carson has jumped to second place in Iowa among Republican voters, seven points behind the real estate mogul.
Trump's immigration plan calls for deporting the estimated 11 million undocumented workers currently in the U.S., a proposal that opponents say would cost billions and would be nearly impossible to execute. Carson said that he instead favors a plan that would allow undocumented workers the chance to become guest workers.
he outspoken leader of the GOP field has so far refrained from knocking Carson, though that could soon change if the former neurosurgeon continues his steady rise in the polls.
"I'm hoping for Ben to really hit me at some point because I love to counter-punch," Trump said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" last week.

Uh oh, Dr. Carson - not a good move on your part.
More costly than giving them all free birthing at hospitals, free food with EBT cards, free welfare and rent payments, then free senior care back at the hospitals?
Really?
Sure about that?????
I DON’T THINK SO!!!
The left will seize on Carson’s remarks that it “sounds really cool”,,and ask him why he feels that way.
Good luck Dr. Carson. I really admire you though I am pulling for Trump/Cruz.
Legal system - Ignore
Costs - use buses
Where - over the border into Mexico
Step 1: Build the damned fence!
Step 2: Announce that you will issue a limited number of green cards each year for citizens of Mexico. And that the ONLY place to apply is the US Embassy in Mexico City.
They’ll self-deport faster than you can say guacamole.
No, you can’t round them all up - but they can round themselves up and self-deport. Or they can stop coming.
They will do that when they know their families can’t join them. They will do that when they see a wall on the border. They will do that when welfare, EBT, food stamps, medicaid and education are cut off.
Within 5 years, the problem will resolve itself.
by providing hope of legality and benefits, you will change NOTHING.
Be careful what you wish for.
Sounds like NBC just trying to stir up the pot but if Carson said it he better prepare for a counter attack.
This may be a good man overall but he is not presidential material.
Bingo.
They already had there chance but decided being Illegal is better!
It can be done in stages, while the wall is being built.
1. no more money sent to mexico
2. prosecute US employers who hire illegals
3. Outlaw anchor babies
4. No more welfare payments to illegals
5. No drivers licenses to illegals
6. 5 year moratorium on all immigration
See, simple as pie.
Trump needs to tread carefully where when he counter pucnhes. Most see Dr. Carson as a very likeable guy and it might turn off supporters if he comes out too hard on Dr. Carson. He can refute the facts of Dr. Carson’s statement, but needs to stay away from any personal attacks. IMO
LOTTERY, LOTTERY, LOTTERY, SHOUT, I tell you, just like during the World War I and World War II, DRAFT, SOMEONE NEEDS TO BE SENT BACK. Some need to learn the HARD lesson that there is NO REWARD for breaking the laws. Period. Congress can devise the WHEEL OF FORTUNE, and a certain amount stay, and God will decide who gets to go back according to Prov. 16 v.33 We toss the coin,[e] but it is the Lord who controls its decision.
What about the ‘bad ones’ Dr. Carson.
When someone takes this position everyone pictures the poor huddling masses, therein lies the problem. Many are criminal and many more are huddled in front of their big screens (1st priority) living off our tax money.
To say you’r not sending them back is just wrong.
The difference between Carson and Trump evidently is that Carson would spare the illegal immigrants the trouble of a round-trip bus ride to the border and also save us the expense.
I don’t buy the ‘self-deport’ theory. Sounds plausible on paper, but in reality millions will just resort to crime and other means to survive undetected and avoid deportation. The vast majority will have to be forcibly removed.
Did Carson say we are obligated to give them all free birthing at hospitals, free food with EBT cards, free welfare and rent payments, then free senior care back at the hospitals? No.
A Bush like policy. Not a good idea Carson.
What about your fellow black Americans who’s jobs are being taken
by illegals? Do you not care about your own community?
