All that illegal sharing of confidential information must have affected his brain.

The latest brilliant plan to curtail Isis in the Middle East? Give more weapons to current members of al-Qaida. al-Qaida is a named enemy of the United States in statutory law. Aiding that organization is treason by legal definition.

Already being done at full throttle; duh?
As to how it all ends, it will be beyond your wildest imaginations.

Great idea. Because we’d never see any blowback from it. Ever.

Same guy who was worried more about somebody burning Korans than fighting the enemy.

Hasn’t he learned his lesson?

Ironic because he has studied Alexander the Great and I bet he took the most liberal ideas and created the COIN strategy plus, he absolutely learned from Nam.

Gee why didn’t I think of that? Instead of something really stupid like taking and holding the oil wells so ISIS has no money? :-)

Petraeus’ wife went to work for the Obama admin. This man is overrated. I think the surge was needed, but it was obvious if you wanted to win. He also had the troops under ridiculous rules of engagement, just like his predecessor.

The USSR was out of Afghanistan before the Taliban were formed. The Taliban were formed in 1996 from a vigilante group of young folks following the old geezer, Mullah Omar... while he may have fought the Soviets, his followers were too young. There was a vacuum left by the post-communist mujahedeen government in Kabul which was unable to project power much beyond that city because after the leaders of that government [including Gen. Massood] drove the Russians out, the US under Clinton withdrew support, much as Obama did in Iraq. So with roads and airfields devastated from years of war, there was little the government in Kabul could do enforce the law in the countryside and control the warlords - many of them non-afghan Arabs who had entered the country to fight the Russians but were now seeing how lucrative growing poppies could be- were free to set up their fiefdoms and marry local women without fear of Kabul. They soon wore out their welcome by stealing vinyards and orchards from weaker owners, taking this prime land to grow poppies instead; and so when a group of native boys started to take matters into their own hands, and took down the worst of the warlords one at a time, their popularity among the dispossessed soared [temporarily], and their success caught Pakistan's attention. Pakistan began providing aid to them in exchange for their becoming the guardians of Afghanistan's limited supply routes. These were Omar's Taliban... with the exception of Omar, they were not veteran mujahedeen. They opposed the main veteran mujahedeen we had supported, Gen. Massood, whom al Qaeda eventually assassinated days before the 9/11 attacks on the US.
The Clintons had visions of making deals with Pakistan to get the Pakis to stop their nuke program. Pakistan wanted the US to pull support from Massood, who wanted an Afghanistan independent of Pakistan. This was OK with Clinton. Clinton preferred Gulbuddin Hekmatyar to Massood.
Pakistan funneled funds and resources to the Taliban, fearing that Massood, who was friendly with India, would end Pakistan's ambitions to incorporate Afghanistan, which they wanted as much as they want Kashmir. And the Taliban soon enough swelled in number until they were a threat to Kabul.
And the Clinton admin thought it could make a deal with the Taliban for a pipeline... so it was OK with this too.

Thanks for the link
re NAU/CFR etc. .... wasn't aware Petraeus had been "imbibed" by those conspirators, but then I guess they have the vig by now to keep real patriots away from power, the way homosexual PACs reach out to deny city council and legislature seats to Midwestern conservatives because they're family people and not homofriendly.
I also noticed the substantial overlap attested by MP Farage between the Eurocrats and the old Communist cabals and commissariats. Exhibit A being Angela Merkel, whom I hadn't known is a former GDR/DDR Communist functionary -- and a professional propagandist to boot. (Which, btw, Betty Friedan once was in her own time, being a writer for the house newspaper of the Electricians' Union, then the biggest Red-run union in the United States.)
