Congressman wants Carter to intervene in removal of Green Beret (shoving a rapist incident)

WASHINGTON — In a letter urging Secretary of Defense Ash Carter to intervene, a congressman said Wednesday that the Army went too far in reprimanding and initiating actions against a Green Beret who shoved an Afghan police commander after he allegedly admitted raping a young boy.

Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland faces involuntary separation from the Army by November. Martland, 32, has said he wants to continue serving and is being removed based solely on the September 2011 incident while deployed to Kunduz province. Messages seeking comment from the Army were not immediately returned Thursday.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., a former Marine who sits on the House Armed Services Committee, said the Army rushed to judgment after the incident, in which Martland and his detachment commander shoved Afghan Local Police commander Abdul Rahman after they said he admitted to chaining a 12-year-old boy and repeatedly sexually assaulting him over several days.

This Soldier should demand a court martial and have a jury of his peers. Those on the jury would realize he is being railroaded and vote accordingly.

I read about this before, it was kind of the worst of both worlds. It didn’t do anything that would have stopped the abuse, but it did get the Afghan contingent (these are supposedly our allies in the never ending police action over there) angry.

Didn’t read this one closely at first, I was thinking Carter? Who, Jimmy?

I pray for a wise outcome. To reprimand him for his chosen course of action, yes. To oust him, I don’t see that is necessary.

The appointees and REMFS under the Obama administration are literally taking every opportunity, almost across the board, to gut our military.

So a Green Beret “shoves” and Afghan policeman who admits to repeatedly chaining a 12 year old boy up and raping him, and then beating his mother for turning him in.

IMHO, they should have capped the bastard...but I would tend to perhaps over-react a little.

So shoving such a monster results in the involuntary removal from service for the Green Beret NCO?

How sickening and pathetic.

I agree with Hunter...these men should receive commendations for showing massive restraint to the Afghan, and demonstrating that US assistance will not tolerate such behavior.

There would have been other ways, but they would have involved going through the chain of command. Sometimes troops have to learn the hard way that they are not just wild cards, or if they really do think the exceptions they make are from God, then then need to man up and God up and accept the consequences without whining.

Boy this is the wrong administration for him to have shoved one of the protected class. In any sane world they would have applauded him for meting out some street justice but in Barry’s world he committed the sin of being straight and punishing a homo for sodomizing a helpless boy’s anus and calling him out on it. Damn I hate Barry’s America. Absolutely hate it.

I fail to see how this would have stopped the abuse. It sounded like this fellow was in it so deep that a mere “shove” would have achieved nothing.

Don’t slap the hornets nest, incinerate it, if it is truly proper and necessary to do anything about that nest. And that may need resources beyond yourself.

Silly me, I would think he deserves a medal for the incident. If they want to give him a letter of reprimand it should be for showing too much restraint and not shooting the raghead B@$tard.

Take it from a Afghan combat vet - the whole of Afghanistan is full of pedophiles and they view it as normal.

I am surprised former Congressman Frank is not ‘intervening’.

Hmmm, just realized Afghanistan is so like Sparta. Probably all those abused kids who grow up angry and hateful are why they have the history they do. Sparta no longer exists and the 300 pedophiles should never have been glorified.

Sadly, this is consistent with our moral standing in the world.

Under øbama, we are degraded to his level. And it is far from over. The pit is deeper still.

A white, male, straight (Christian ?) US soldier shoved a rapist, a Muslim, and an Afghan “soldier”.

Three strikes against the man attacking this administration’s protected classes. You must fire the shover.

“Other ways?” Such as? It’s the chain of command that’s pushing for his discharge.

Yes, because he did something that in context was thoroughly inane. Worst of both worlds.

I’ve tried to find out if there was any reality to the Sparta story and can find no definitive answer, only stories of rumors that were going around Greece. Some of them sound pretty wild.

Did this fellow in a warped way think he was “manning up” the kid. Did the kid get a warped thrill from it. Dunno. But the way to TRY to do something good about the situation is to push the information to those who actually can intervene. This “shove” was the worst of both worlds.

He pushed a guy that raped a kid for God’s sake. You really think he should’ve gone to his “chain of command” - the same chain of command that wants to kick him out of the Army for PUSHING a rapist? You’re defending the pussies that want to ruin his career because of it. I’m glad the Army I was in wouldn’t have expected me to look the other way under such circumstances or I’d be in Leavenworth.
