This is what Walker's going after (and being successful), and they know it.

Wisconsin Idea (education, politics, media)

Their pain makes me smile.
I will definitely vote for Walker if he wins the Primaries!

The university had squirreled away $600 million that was discovered on Walker’s watch. They had successfully gotten large tuition increases year after year before that.

The exodus of “top talent” hasn’t happened. It isn’t going to happen.

Tenure is too often mistaken for a sinecure

No kidding. Mistaken as such most often by the holders of it.

Tragically, the academic gravy train, where Stalinists get to give taxpayers the finger at their own expense, is slowly—very slowly—drawing to a close.

Because Lord knows the last thing you want are the universities out there helping the public.

At the School of Freshwater Sciences, professor and senior scientist Sandra McLellan routinely pulls in half a million dollars annually in outside funding.

That ought to be able to fund a rather comfortable compensation package for Miz McLellan without any additional contribution from either the state taxpayers or student tuition.

One of my hobbies is cryptozoology.

I cannot help but wonder the following: If the endangered animal in question were something that would undermine over a hundred years of "science" - something like, say, a pterodactyl - would these university professors still be gung ho in favor of protections and awareness programs?

Walker does have enemies in all the right places. He pisses off all the right people.

Is this article supposed to make me want to lobby for continued tenure? LOL! In this case it failed miserably!

I know a Wisconsin alum who says our local community college has better instructors and teaches more effectively.

Sounds to me like running off their tenured faculty might not be a bad thing.

Recruitment is suffering - what they denied some black high school football star from entering UW Madison for the reasons that his GPA was not good enough to get into UW Madison. UW Madison and UW Milwaukee are the two largest university campuses in Wisconsin - from Milwuakee and Madison outward there are approximately 11 more 4 year degree granting universities and 13 more state universiies that operate for students to get the basics in before going to a bigger university., There are University Extensions in other counties whereby there is no university. Wisconsin truly needs to consider eliminate some of its university sites, 13 4 year 13, considered 2 year plus there are also the numerous community colleges throughout Wisconsin - something has to change it is not like money grows on trees.

Hall says [she] hasn’t had a cost-of-living raise in ten years.

Neither has anyone in the private sector, but I'll bet you have a nice pension (that you only just started contributing to - thanks Act 10) and a cadilac health plan.

“But for years, the population of yellow perch has been in serious decline. Now on the verge of collapse, the future of this iconic fish is looking grim.”

This has to do with the introduction of zebra and quagga mussels, which eat the plankton juvenile yellow perch eat. Yellow perch are also sensitive to pollution, especially agricultural runoff.

There. Can I have his job?

Government employees have often been saying, "We're not going to take it any more," so the following should be their Trump campaign song.

If these “fish” professors are so good, then private money from, shudder, “free enterprise” businesses, will cover any state financial loses.

Anything that will get the entrenched reds out of the Un. of Wisconsin, Madison, is a plus for the Republic. Check out the Haven Center and related “peace” institutes. Full of reds and cowards, with tentacles entwined with other Hanoi Lobby veterans.

By the way, Perch tastes like crap. I’ve found that Tilapia, when cooked with butter and lemon, is really good. Mix is with good white rice and you’ve got a tasty meal.

By the way, the article doesn’t tell us how much tenured professors make a year in salaries and perks, and how many classes/hours they teach a week.

“A Convenient Omission”.

Curious move on Walker’s part. It isn’t just liberals who like state universities. Ask Tom Corbett how messing with Penn State (in different ways and over a different issue, of course) went for him.

Happy about the university. Not so happy for the fish. Amd the sports stadium is just more crony capitalism.
