Ronald Reagan was genuine, the real deal. Trump, I'm not so sure of. And I know it's early in the campaigning season. But what I saw of Trump tonight reminded me of Reagan.

Your thoughts?

He doesn’t have to be Reagan. His whole campaign is a giant FU to Washington, DC.

Love it.

Reagan was a lot easier to follow — when he gave a speech.

I thought Trump was funny. His stump speech was a bit of standup comedy, but not in a bad way.

Regardless, I haven’t seen anything like this in politics since I can remember.

40,000 turning out to hear a candidate 14+ months before an election?

And 40,000 Southerners to hear a New Yorker?

Nobody will be the next Reagan.

But Trump can create his own legend.

I loved that speech..!

He’s a billionaire but speaks to the audience as if they were his absolute EQUAL —a WORLD of difference as compared with Hillary Clinton.

Inevitably she treats ALL as 5-year-olds.

He’s funny and he’s addressing exactly the topics that have so many of us deeply worried.

He will have my vote FOR SURE.

He comes across as some kind of Reagan / Patton hybrid.

Not even close.

President Reagan was known as "The Great Communicator".

Trump talks like a Third-grader

Just can’t find myself trusting this guy. He may be elected President, I don’t know, the only thing I know is that my gut tells me not to trust him.

If he is nominated, I will vote for him ... only because the alternative would be worse.

Reagan spent years refining his message at the GE plants, to the point that his daughter Patti commented on the stacks of 3 x 5 cards that he kept on every topic. But Reagan was a natural storyteller, a talent he inherited from his father. In short, they are very different and Trump will not be able to just learn some funny stories.

I think even as President he would not use written speeches. It will definitely be a brand new world.

Trump is not Obama, Clinton, or Bush. Trump is closer to Reagan than any of them.

Reagan was a proven conservative by the time he became President.

I don’t know Trump’s true values. However, I don’t view that as a negative anymore.

I heard a phrase on talk radio in the last week or two, I want to credit it to Hannity’s show, of politicians being campaign conservatives.

We’ve been lied to so many times by so many people with R next to their name that anyone that pisses off all those R’s that are supposedly the R’s that matter... I like the guy.

How sad is American politics that you have to know the people pissing off the leadership in “your” party are perhaps your friend?

Screw every GOPe and the House and Senate leadership. If this makes them nervous in a bad way, I’m for it.

The cabal must crumble.

Trump is no Ronald Reagan but Trump has an aura about him already. People see him as a man who gets things done and brother do we need a ton of things in this country to get done.

Don’t let the guys at National Review hear you. I finally had to unlike their Facebook page for their mindless and non-stop Trump bashing. They’re promoting the wearisome, RINO refrain of, “there’s nothing that can be done about this flood of illegals.” Piss on them.

No.

But Trump certainly knows how to talk to people and draw them in.

IF he decides to give up some of his earlier ideas, and his urge to make money and connections, and actually becomes what he might be, then he could be very good indeed.

Ronald Reagan had good basic moral principles, and was guided by them. It’s not clear whether Trump has them or not. But if he can be persuaded to adopt moral principles, perhaps with the advice of a close adviser (such as Ronald Reagan had), then he has enormous potential.

He needs someone with reliable moral principles (i.e., religious principles) that he can count on to help him out.

Reagan actually changed himself to a considerable extent from what he had been earlier. Maybe Trump could do that, too. But he has to want to. He has to put God, country, and American citizens first.
