The Internal Revenue Service must answer in court for a data breach in which hackers gained access to personal identifying data belonging to at least 330,000 people.
Two Texas women sued the agency Thursday in Washington, complaining that "the U.S. government cannot be relied upon to keep the personal data of its citizens safe."
The women, Becky Welborn of Dripping Springs and Wendy Windrich of Conroe, are seeking to represent anyone whose information was stolen after using the IRS "Get Transcript" service that allow taxpayers to get information on their own filings. They're also asking for unspecified money damages for the loss of control of their personal information.
The agency announced the incursion in May. Stolen information included Social Security numbers, birth dates and street addresses. The data enabled thieves to file fake tax returns that yielded as much as $50 million in refunds, IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said then.

Target was sued. Worse is what irs deserves.
I doubt you could get $2.50.
IRS Commissioner John Koskinen could counter-sue on the basis that the taxpayers are the ones who sent the data to the IRS in spite of the fact that it is a known incompetent agency.
He’d probably win!
If only the IRS kept records on Hillary’s private server, then nobody would ever see it again.
Just don’t file. Imagine the payout if you hadn’t.
