Even as the Phillips family is struggling for financial existence against punishing government fines for refusing to bake a gay-wedding cake, Donald Trump is doubling down (along with Kasich) on his position as an antiantigay-marriage Republican.
As Paul Dupont points out, Trump, when asked whether gay marriage was a dead issue, did not respond even by saying he would fight for religious liberty, or the right to make a living. He simply said a constitutional amendment is not going to pass, the Supreme Court has ruled, and its time to move on.
This is from an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
THR: You say you would have liked the states, rather than the Supreme Court, to decide on gay marriage. Have you been to a gay wedding?
Trump: Yes, I have. [Broadway theater owner] Jordan Roth. You know Jordan, right? Great guy.
THR: So is this a dead issue for the GOP at this point?
Trump: Some people have hopes of passing amendments, but its not going to happen. Congress cant pass simple things, let alone that. So anybody thats making that an issue is doing it for political reasons. The Supreme Court ruled on it.
Hes a fighter, allegedly, but not against the biggest powers that be.
So now we have a weird scenario when the princess candidate of the current establishment (John Kasich) and the alleged insurgent are both unwilling to fight against the redefinition of Christianity as bigotry.
I respect Trump enough to take him seriously as a candidate. He could win Iowa. Are there enough people willing to stand up against the real powers that be to either change the candidates mind, or oppose him?
This is a central untold drama of the election.
What both Trump and Kasich should do is to OPENLY and BRAVELY defend Religious Freedom.
They should openly denounce what the courts are doing against Christian Bakers, Photographers and Lodge owners.
Unfortunately, I don;t see anyone doing that at all.
Have to use the Liberty amendments, Trump is right about Congress.
Another reason why I don’t support Trump.
This whole scenario is what you get with a mixture of radical PC and liberal judicial tyranny. Just another stone in the path of liberal destruction.
Trump has a problem with me if he isn’t taking a stand on moral and family issues that’s any better than this. I won’t vote for any candidate who isn’t against same-sex “marriage.”
Why> Because Trump would rather have the Constitution guide his decisions vs. his own personal convictions??
If this report is accurate, DT will need to evolve and quickly.
I note he made no statement re: RFRA.
Kasich is the “princess candidate”? I thought that was Lindsay Graham. Anyhow, Trump is right to avoid the social issue briar patch for now. That’s not what the general electorate cares about. When he becomes POTUS, he can appoint an AG and judges who can deal with this.
Trump doesn’t represent me. Neither does anyone else who surrenders the moral basis of this free republic.
In fact, anyone who says something is settled just because a lawless Supreme Court says so obviously doesn’t even understand what this constitutional republic is. They’re part of the coup d’etat that is trying hard to turn us into a judicial oligarchy.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again... there is not one moral bone in trump’s body... he will do whatever is convenient for Trump... a man like trump does not not have a stake in any industry that makes money (gays are among the wealthiest people in america) and his buildings scream as much...
The Constitution does not, and cannot, confer authority to overturn the laws of nature and nature's God.
RE: When he becomes POTUS, he can appoint an AG and judges who can deal with this.
He already said he is partial to Trey Gowdy. How do you think he’ll do on this issue?
What about the only candidate complaining about ISIS beheading Christians?
Reason to write off-Trump.
I’ve got some property in florida you might like?...
National Review has no credibility any more.
“He already said he is partial to Trey Gowdy. How do you think hell do on this issue?”
Gowdy seems like a rock-ribbed conservative. He’s giving Shrillary a lot of grief. Do you think he’d be squishy on same-sex “marriage” as AG?
The Constitution???
Do you think the SCOTUS ruling for queers back in June was Constitutional?
