Jeb Bush pitches "total voucherization" at education summit

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and other 2016 Republican presidential hopefuls on Wednesday endorsed school vouchers as a means of driving competition and innovation in the nation's school systems.

"Why not allow total voucherization? Nevada is moving in this direction," Bush said at a New Hampshire education summit. "Let the suppliers come up with the creative solutions, have high expectations and accountability, and get out of the way."

Bush said schools would benefit from "innovation" since "the system we have today is still designed as though it was in the 1930's."

One cannot support Common Core and competition between schools at the same time. You either want them to be cookie cutter schools controlled by DC or not.

Jeb is just nuts

One day, bureaucrats in the government outlawed dancing.

The next day, politicians promised to make dancing mandatory.

Agreed. In fact, when I see the debacle that public education has become, and the brain rot that it has inflicted on the minds of Americans, I think that ALL education should be private. Public school systems are nothing more than socialist propaganda mills that pose as glorified baby sitters.

Earth to Jeb, you are not going to be the nominee, so please just shut up for now! And no, Secretary of Education is out for you too! So go away.
Enough of your “voucherization.”

Immigration policy sits atop the hierarchy of critical issues facing America.

Get that one wrong, as Yeb definitely does, and it matters NOT what a politician says about anything else.

Does anyone truly believe we will convert these benighted poor into self sufficient capitalists anytime within the next 100 years?

Hell no we won't. Yeb's Dreamers will overwhelm the ballot boxes with the socialism they bring with them from their squalid socialist homes. And the rest of us will pay for it until we've got no more to give and our once great society fades completely away.

Exactly...the one thing I have learned as I have a young son going through school, is what determines if a school is good or not is purely local circumstances. The more outside distractions from the state and feds, the worse it gets!

I agree with Jebito 100%.

I know people are concerned about the government takeover of private schooling.

Should a voucher program be implemented, the worst case scenario would be a return to today's situation.

But the government will never take over private schooling because parents would revolt against their school being destroyed by the federal government. Republicans would have a permanent constituency of voucher-redeeming parents.

Assuming the worst, the complete takeover of private schools by the government, wealthy parents would simply found non-voucher-redeeming schools. And we would return to the current situation.

SO WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!

All “education” should be local ONLY and controlled by the parents. Taxes should only go to the area-—and very few taxes should be needed for the excellent one-room type of “education” teachers need for Classical education.

There should be no media in schools until after age 13 years——like in the Waldorf schools. Looking at screens and pressing buttons destroys the integration and creativity of the brain and creates lazy, conformist minds.

We need Common Sense RETURNED which only comes from the Natural environment and self-initiated human interactions where children learn Virtue skills which have to be mastered BEFORE academic Classical Education can be mastered. It is why no children prior to age 8 were sent to SCHOOL prior to John Dewey, the atheist Humanist lowered the age for mass indoctrination.

Brilliant minds like JS Mill and Galileo, Lincoln were taught by their fathers or mothers AT HOME in REAL LIFE situations (Common Sense).

The Bible was memorized in early childhood (abstract thinking will be possible and with large vocabulary) and they mastered real life skills (work ethic) which taught true self-esteem and Virtue (that which is needed for Freedom).

Galileo helped his mathematician father set up experiments when he was a small child-—and helped him keep track of results....so did Franklin who worked and knew how to read before he entered “school” at 8 and quit at 12 to work.

They all learned to read and were rabid readers of the Great Books and history of the Ages.....from Ancient Greek times to their present time. They learned all the greatest ideas of Western Civ in four to six years TOTAL——and they were SO MUCH SMARTER than ALL PhD grads today.

Schools today destroy Virtue, destroy “thinking outside the box”, destroy Common Sense (as GK Chesterton and CS Lewis stated) because they removed children too early from the Natural Family to create emotionally unhealthy children-—who will be programmed to be “group thinkers”.

Individualism only comes from Christianity and the Natural Family——Inca minds/tribal minds are created by socialism and dependency forced onto little children in early years when they should be developing autonomy in their family unit which caters to individualism (that which made America Great-—along with Christian Virtues).

Iserbyt would disagree—That the destruction of public school is very dangerous, but that local parental control of schools is always essential. Even “State” control is too big now.

The Gates-types will buy off all private schools——like they did with Notre Dame U. in Indiana and made the curricula into secular pap although it is supposedly “Catholic”-—LOL-— where they now promote abortions and homosexuality and have such a demonic person, as obama for commencement speaker.

Money is Power and it will corrupt the system just like crony-Capitalism has destroyed our Republic and “legal” system. The curricula will be brainwashing cr*p like Common Core-—no different....everything through a Marxist Lens for little Johnny. The Leftists have total control of the text book publishing companies and “testing” and universities-——and have for 80 years.

Parents will be dupes like they usually are, since most have no time to research and are ignorant from “public” school and MSM indoctrination, which has been teaching lies about child development for a century now.

We need parents to be the First teachers again-—schools to be locally controlled and public and never mandatory-—but only with Classical Education —all the Neo-Freudian, Malthusian, Darwinian brainwashing of the post-Deweyian “group think” totally removed.

Right. So the worst case scenario returns us to today.

But think about the difference between talking about Obamacare and taking away someone’s doctor. People might get confused about the former, but everyone understands the latter.

Inner city blacks might not understand a free market in education, but they sure understand a $10k check for a private school tuition.

And that is what will prevent the government takeover of voucher-redeeming schools. Parents will be truly empowered and their minds will kick into gear.

Well, what happens when the state decides that all these private schools have to be licensed and regulated by the state, and must teach to certain state required tests?

What happens when the state dictates certain curriculum requirements in order for private schools to qualify for "voucherization"?

The federal government MUST be completely removed from the education business. And the federal Department of Education must be abolished yesterday.

Some schools (10% like today) will refuse vouchers and will be unregulated. Then we will be back to the current situation.

So it CAN’T be worse, and there is a HUGE upside potential.

The alternative is the status quo.
