OKLAHOMA CITY - The Nuclear Deal with Iran has topped conversations across the political landscape.
President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have been outspoken saying this deal is “not based on trust” and “building a nuclear bomb requires either uranium or plutonium. But thanks to this deal, Iran’s four possible ways to leverage those fissile materials are blocked.”
However Republican lawmakers and even some democrats have been just as outspoken against the deal. GOP presidential candidates continue to address the deal in their campaign speeches. Most hopefuls want “anytime, anywhere” inspections in Iran.
But now the Obama Administration has the support of three dozen retired admirals and generals. In an open letter to the “Washington Post” the admirals and generals state, “there is no better option to prevent an Iranian nuclear weapon,” and “If the deal is rejected…the Iranians could have nuclear weapon within a year. The choice is stark.”
News 9’s Justin Dougherty had a chance to ask presidential hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) his thoughts on the letter when the senator came to Oklahoma City last week. Here is what he had to say:
Several times you have mentioned that in international crisis you would seek the advice of military personnel, now recently there are three dozen former generals and admirals would say this is our only option to keep nuclear weapons from Iran. Are you going to listen to that letter at all?
"I don't know the letter to which you are referencing. But I can tell you this Iranian Nuclear Deal is catastrophic. The single national security threat facing America is the threat of a nuclear Iran. If this deal goes through, three things will happen: 1.) The Obama Administration will be world's leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism. Billions of dollars will flow to jihadist who will use that money to try and murder Americans. 2.) This leaves four American hostages in Iran. 3.) This deal only speeds up Iran’s abilities to get a nuclear weapon."
Congress has until September 17 to vote on the deal.
Like it was blocked for North Korea?
The deal gives Iran $150 billion U.S. taxpayer dollars
They can just subcontract with North Korea to build them a bomb
It’s only a 12 hour flight away when they need it
It should be a simple majority vote.
As Ted Cruz stated at the AFP conference the other day, these 60 vote thresholds are usually to hide GOP support of unpopular legislation.
Don’t forget to email/write your ‘representatives’ people.
I’ve tried to contact and get a response twice now from Senator Franken. Seems he’s too busy going on soft questioning local radio shows to talk about his grandchildren and his concern that they’ll face a future of fire and brimstone due to global warming caused by carbon emissions.
True though, the structure that would bring nuclear warheads or explosive devices to the US would be made of carbon crafted by humans, so he’s not too far off.
Maybe Ted Cruz can slap Franken and explain to him just what the Iranians wish to do to his Jewish hide!

Shouldn't he have thought of that before he voted for the Cochran Bill?
It was decided then. It ascertained passage of the final agreement.
And, ANY fool could see that.
May 7, 2015 - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, released the following statement regarding votes on the Iran Nuclear Review Act:
This bill was a missed opportunity. If Congress had acted to defend our constitutional authority if Congress had adopted the Cruz-Toomey amendment then we would be able to stop a bad Iran deal. Instead, the odds are now overwhelming that under these ground rules President Obama will negotiate, and Congress will acquiesce to, a terrible deal that allows Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and will endanger the lives of millions of Americans and our allies.
I voted no on cloture because we should have insisted on amendments to put real teeth in this bill. Ultimately, I voted yes on final passage because it may delay, slightly, President Obamas ability to lift the Iran sanctions and it ensures we will have a Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran deal. I will continue to lead the fight to prevent the Islamic Republic of Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to protect the national security of America and our allies.
Cruz said: “I voted yes on final passage because it may delay, slightly, President Obamas ability to lift the Iran sanctions and it ensures we will have a Congressional debate on the merits of the Iran deal.”
“May delay, slightly”??! That’s a lousy reason. “Ensures” a debate? If a Republican controlled Senate cannot ensure that it would have a debate on a treaty vote, then we are in bigger trouble than we thought.
Cruz blew it big time here. Did he talk to Sen. Tom Cotton about this?
I wonder how many of them are working for Defense contractors trying to get contracts from this administration.
